  2. having second thoughts

Second-guessing my decision yesterday. I heard K vaping in the apartment even after he said he wouldn't anymore. I know vaping isn't the same as smoking, but I don't want to be around any kind of smoke in the house period. I feel like I'm preventing him from doing something he enjoys, but this is a hard boundary for me. I smoked for a few years, and I just don't want to be around it anymore. The fact that he tried to sneak it is kind of the same as lying imo. Now, I'm thinking maybe we should…

  3. journaling with cards + getting back into daily drawing

Trying to get back into the daily habit of doodling in my notebook. After everything that's happened in the last month, my creative hobbies are slowly coming back. I like sharing my process, but taking photos in this basement is a real challenge with no light. I'm in a dungeon! I feel kinda rusty, but it's nice to draw a bit with my morning coffee. I love the mini zine format. I've played around with other size formats, but I always come back to this one. It's easy to make, no staples required.…

  4. i saw a moose! 🫎

I spent the week in Algonquin Park and saw my first moose! What a serendipitous sighting! We went looking for moose every day we were there, and finally on the last day, as it rained out, we spotted one. Just a young thing, as he didn't have his full antlers. K and I were the only ones who saw him <3 Other creatures I saw in the wilderness: 🫎 a yellow-bellied woodpecker who pretty much stayed on the same tree in our camp the whole week 🫎 a little toad 🫎 a brave chipmunk who ate the nuts we…

  5. doodling in coffee shops and summer hikes

I miss writing on my little blog. Yesterday, I went and hung out in a charming cafe in Bowanville called The Toasted Walnut. I sat and did some drawings for my next one-page zine. I people-watched out the window, and half-listened to the convos around me. The cafe was full of regulars, evident by the easy banter between customers and wait staff. Cute little spot to spend some time. My iced vanilla latte was not too sweet, and was the perfect refresher as I sat and doodled. Since I don't have a…

  6. my apartment is "done"

They've finished remediating my apartment. A small part of me still feels like it's a toxic environment, though, with lingering dust on the walls and in other nooks and crannies. If I open these bags up, will a pouf of cement dust come flying out? What if the vents have trapped dust in there somehow? It's hard for me to trust that this place is safe again. I got rid of: alllll my clothes (at their suggestion), my mattress (I need a new one anyway), and my couch. I'm so conflicted about whether…

  7. blog update

As you know, my apartment is in the depths of hell right now under a blanket of cement dust. The new printer I bought for my zines and art is now dead. It was right under the window of the cement dust cloud that effectively destroyed my place. Because of that, the small sanctuary I've built around printed zines won't be an option for me for a long time until I get myself situated again in a new apartment or somehow salvage this one. Even my packing supplies and materials for my art are…

  8. I should have listened

It's been a week. They started doing balcony repairs in my building, which involves heavy drilling of all the concrete slabs. Before starting the process, they told us to close all our windows and to remove all AC's from the windows. Well, the AC was so heavy (and professionally installed) that I didn't want to take it out. I had the bright idea to put garbage bags on the outside of the AC unit, thinking that they could just work around it and it would be sufficient. lol. Because of my…

  9. perfume, books, flowers

I haven't left the house today. K is taking his brother + fam to the airport. They're going to France, and then on a cruise around the Mediterranean. We're going for dinner when he gets back. I feel like Italian. Pasta, bread. And some wine. Listening to the record, Something Else by Cannonball Adderley. Yesterday, I went to BMV used bookstore to try to find a few books. I couldn't find anything, despite it being two-storey plus a basement. I felt a bit overwhelmed by its grandeur. There were…

  10. grateful

It's already been a week since Muskoka died. What a blur. Been watching a lot of cozy vlogs. And reading, like I mentioned. Latest book: Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher, a reimagined, dark telling of Snow White. She has single-handedly revived my love of reading. Her writing is dark and witty, and the romance isn't at the forefront of the story, which I appreciate rn. She's quite the prolific writer, so I'm excited to have a lot of her work ahead to enjoy. I'm heading home tomorrow. Idk. I…

  11. not the same

I feel disoriented. I have no idea what to do with myself. My routine dismantled. I'm still staying at K's house this week. I went back to my place to pick up a few things. Took the garbage out, cleared out the fridge. Not ready to stay there alone yet. How am I going to walk around that neighborhood now? His stuffies are still on top of the couch. Is it harder to lose a pet when it was just the two of you for so long? On the cusp of panic. My health anxiety on overdrive. I haven't dreamed…

  12. i love you Muskoka 2013-2026

Muskoka died yesterday. It all happened so fast. I’m still in shock. I haven’t slept and my eyelids are so puffy from crying. Today is the first day of never going on another morning walk together. Those walks were my favourite part of our day. That and morning snuggles. He got me through so many life troubles. He was there for me when M died, when I couldn’t walk for months after getting hit by a car, through and after my dad dying. He was my constant. My best friend. It was always him and I…

  14. zine trades + a new pocket notebook

I have the worst cold rn. Ears and nose plugged up, my head heavy as a rock. Ugh. Been watching lots of Supernatural (i'm on S2!) and finished up The Boroughs, which was a fun ride. I've been working on my next zine after a long-ish break. I think the influx of zine trades I've been doing lately has invigorated my creative energy 💫. So many charming and beautiful zines. Con Moto 8 + 8.5 The Moving Dilema by Zoe, My Experiences by David, Sticky Brain Vol 1 & 2 by Natalie from Purrito zines,…

  15. lately in my hobonichi weeks

I've been playing in my new planner a bit and trying to get a feel for it. I love how compact it is. It's easy to bring with me everywhere. Although simultaneously, I feel a bit cramped in it, writing-wise. I'm forced to write small, and I tend to like a bit more room. I wanted to do a bit of light memory keeping in it, but I might refrain from that and keep it for to-dos and appts. I also initially wanted to input some health tracking but I think I might leave the health info in my Apple…

  16. Hobonichi love + links

My new (again) obsession these past few weeks has been all things Hobonichi, specifically the weeks planner (I got the April start, Japanese edition). I think I've watched every Hobonichi weeks set up/flip-through on YT there is. These vids are so relaxing to watch, and they make me want to emulate their perfect aesthetic, but my planner pages rarely look that neat. They're full of messy handwriting, and I'm still trying to figure out how and what I want to keep track of. Mainly health things…

  18. slow morning notes

It's an overcast, rainy day here in Toronto today. I spent the morning applying to a few job openings and cold emailing a few clinics nearby. I was at K's all weekend, so I've also been doing some light cleaning, laundry, and will later go and get a few groceries at Metro. Doodles from the last few days I broke down and purchased a Hobonichi Weeks planner yesterday 🙈. It's the Liberty Fabrics Sasha Kiora floral pattern, April start. I'm so excited to start using a paper planner! I normally use…

  19. not fruitful but polite

For weeks, the carbon monoxide detector in the hallway beeped incessantly until I found out it was coming from the couple's apartment next door. I asked her if she could change the battery. She did. Her name is Gul, but she told me I could call her Rose. I've been worrying and doodling in my journal. Thinking about air-dry clay, and how maybe I could make tiny trinket bowls for my rings. I made some postcards spurred on by the doodles in my journal. Last night, I pulled my single-sized mattress…

  20. records and zine mail

Feeling v contemplative this evening. Trying not to let the feelings take over, and recognizing the ebb and flow of creative eras. I bought three records this week. Snocaps by Snowcaps, Creature of Habit by Courtney Barnett, and Greatest Hits by The Cure. Snocaps and Creature of Habit have been on repeat since the weekend. Both records have amazing inserts. This is important! I love Katie. And I adore MJ Lenderman. I mean, he's got a Dinosaur Jr tee on. Plus, he plays 12 strings on this album!…

  21. Call me Farquaad

I went back to the hairdresser's to get it cut a bit shorter (bc of course I did), and now I hate it bc this fuckass bob looks so harsh now. She cut my hair straight across instead of vertically cutting into the hair, so the ends look so blunt now. I should have spoken up but alas, I did not. Just call me Farquaad. After my haircut, I went to this tiny cafe around the corner for a coffee and croissant, which was utter perfection. I sat down and stayed a while, people-watched, and then got four…

  22. Life With Subtitles Zine by Erica Fustero

A few weeks ago, I met Erica Fustero, a fellow zine maker and artist on Mastodon. We did a zine trade, and it makes my heart so happy to trade art like this. All the way from Mataró! She writes a diary-like zine called Life With Subtitles, which is full of charming and clever illustrations. I really like the square format too. She makes a mini zine called Fancine, which is an illustrated film diary. Adorable! On the back of the zine, there's a cool illustration from one of the films she wrote…
