Bought a book today. Two, actually. But the one I'm most excited about is Screen: Essays on Graphic Design, New Media, and Visual Culture, by Jessica Helfand. I read the first page of several of the essays to test it out —— you know, how a cop in an 80s movie licks his index finger, dips it in a bag of cocaine, then rubs the coke on his gums so as to be able to demonstrate something like "it's pure" (maybe) —— and it was just banger after banger after banger. 🌲 gonna 🌼 go 🌱 touch hey 🌳 grass…
I've created a list showing the 348 new elements within the September 2026 LEGO® sets, with links to which ones they come in, in case you wish to purchase. Because there are LEGO® Minifigures and Advent Calendar sets among them, there are a lot of elements missing their Element ID. We will update when we know them. This month is dominated by specialized pieces for intellectual properties beginning with "S" – Shrek, Star Trek and SpongeBob. These will almost certainly not be added to Pick a Brick…
From Eric Thomson: Vercelli Book, Homily XV, f.85r: And the holy Peter goes with [them] and bears the keys of hell in his hand. Oh, my brothers, what great sorrow and great lamentation and great sighing and weeping can be heard there, and furthermore, gnashing of teeth, and the loudest mournful cry, and the most sorrowful voice, and the most sorrowful lamentation and groaning! And then the devils drive the sinful and miserable souls into the torments of hell, and they themselves go in with…
(Kimberly (she/her) took the express train down the fountain pen/stationery rabbit hole and doesn't want to be rescued. She can be found on Instagram @allthehobbies because there really are many, many hobbies!.)Heading into the 2026 SF Pen Show, I was already run down (but partly recovered) from a bug that I got at camp a few weeks prior (not Covid, Flu A/B, or RSV, just crud). I had started antibiotics and my body wasn’t 100%, but I was determined to make the most out of my favorite show, my…
In 2021 I published my guide for getting the two bevels on narrow plough plane blades dead on 30-degrees and 25-degress and 90-degress dead across too. You read that post here if you're interested. There is also a video on YT here too. Chisels are different because they always taper from the cutting edge to the handle and chisel makers use different ratios. If, like so many, you have struggled to get your narrow or thin chisels with a pristine square and accurate angle on the bevel you are the…
Did a deep dive to see if StyleX would work at Shopify. Turned out to be a wash, similar to my other explorations into OOCSS.
I’m raising money for St. Jude during the month of September, and as we hit fundraising milestones, I’ll keep adding items to give away to anyone and everyone who would like to enter. We have hit our first milestone for the 2026 campaign, and to kick things off, I am giving away a Skogsy Pens Low Volume Eye Dropper (LVED) 14mm, with a polished Black cap and grip section, and Clear acrylic barrel. It is fitted with a Jowo #6 Stainless Steel Medium nib, and will ship with a Rickshaw Pen Sleeve,…
TL;DR - We screwed up. I mean, who doesn’t just go out and buy a bunch of pens, right? Ok, maybe Pelikan doesn’t because they are busy causing a ruckus with the upcoming Pelikan Hubs. That’s a hot mess express, but hopefully heading towards a resolution. I also break down the new uniball Zento Flow Multi Pen, which is the opposite of a hot mess express. In fact, I think it could be better than the Signature - with a One refill swap. Show Notes & Download Links This episode of The Pen Addict is…
Just a small sample of the Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter notebook covers that we now have in stock. Many of you have asked when Roterfaden Taschenbegleiters would arrive in sizes other than A5 Slim, and, well, they are here! We have many different cover options in sizes including B6, A5, B5, and A4 (smallest to largest). We’ve also restocked on Roterfaden notebooks. These are all available to ship now. We do plan on having more of the TGS_25 A5 Slim (I know people will ask), but these take time…
Some newly built stuff from popular kits for a personal OO9 narrow gauge weekend project I’m working on. Stone sheds are plastic kits from Wills (PECO) and the tatty workshop a laser cut kit with printed overlays from Scale Model Scenery. More in due course I’m sure….
I’m pretty sure that lineup came out of a tombola. This could be interesting.
I am still a little vague on the specifics around what has actually happened with the Pelikan Hub events but many local events were cancelled by Pelikan and many attendees were “uninvited” to the events. Hubmasters do not have the contact info for people who were uninvited so they cannot reach out and let them know about the event, invite them without swag from Pelikan or just organize a non-Pelikan-sponsored meetup. Needless to say, all the Hubmasters I know are working hard, on their own time…
We have a guest article from Margit Bermudez (on Flickr and Instagram), a frequent Iron Forge competitor and active member of PortLUG and BioniLUG. We sent her a copy of a January 2026 set containing some parts in the new warm pink color to explore.Looking for a nice-sized display piece? Want to build your own trees, or a vibrant coral starfish? Read on for my review of LEGO® Ideas set 21365 Love Birds and a couple of MOCs inspired by its recolors.Continue reading »
Although its consistancy is almost perfect it does have a strong oder and is quite toxic to work with. The Tamiya model putty is grey and flows well from the tube. <-earlier
Our stamp rally prizes are ready~ I posted the rally promo on my socials to get the word/feelers out - I hope our prizes sell out! I really like our stamp rally prize as it’s on theme (Boothill is a cyborg cowboy!!! Argenti is a rose-tinted knight hehe) + it’s TX/San Antonio. I’m also really proud of how our actual collab image ended up - I had to adjust a bit of my own art to get the bandana look more balanced. It was also my first time designing for a bandana (though we print these regularly…

Ferris Wheel Press (FWP) is a design and stationery company based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and have been creating high-end stationery and fountain pen inks for more than ten years. Just over three years ago I signed up to become a FWP Creative Ambassador with the deal being: I get my blog featured on their Creative Ambassador webpage; get sent a couple of bottles of ink each month which I then post and blog about; and, enjoy the added benefit of receiving a small commission should anyone…
The Sailor Pro Gear Shiba Inu is a limited edition fountain pen. It’s part of Sailor’s ‘Akita & Shiba’ collection and available in only 500 numbered pieces worldwide. It was created as a tribute to one of Japan’s most beloved and iconic dog breeds which appears in comic and meme format just about everywhere in the country. But Shiba dogs are far more than memes – they’re loved in Japan as loyal pets, and as symbols of courage and dignity. This Shiba Inu pen features a Shiba-coloured barrel,…

The new Uni Zento Flow in “Anthurium Pink”. For me, the Uni Zento Flow is the gem of the Zento lineup. While the capped Zento Signature receives most of the attention, I personally prefer the click-pen format, and the Flow’s metal barrel gives this pen nearly perfect balance, in my opinion. In addition to the four colors of anodized aluminum, Uni has added two textured metal barrel options named “Birch” and “Anthurium Pink,” both of which we have added to the shop. These pens are not only…

I’ll be deleting this page soon. There is no interesting math trivia here. Trying to figure out if I can do a Table of Contents type thing with links to other sections of the same page via anchors. I assume there’s some way to make this work with Markdown, MarsEdit and micro.blog Hey this turns out to be easy! TOC Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 Section 1 Section one here. Many years ago when I first got bitten by model train bug I started to collect reference materials. At the time Dave Frary had been building model railways for 30 years. I am thankful that I found these titles eary on. They saved me a lot of time. Model Railway Books by Dave Frary How to Build Realistic Model Railroad Scenery, 2nd Edition, Dave Frary (There might be a forth edition) “Water-soluble techniques that are quick, easy, and trouble free.” Model Railroad Handbook # 16 222 Tips for…
I know Ohuhu from their wide range of alcohol-based markers, but did you know they make fineliners as well? I didn’t until they reached out to me a few months ago and offered to send some my way to try out. Since I’m a fineliner junkie and not an alcohol marker user (their main product category,) I took them up on the opportunity to see how they stack up.I received two packs of pens in the mail, the Ohuhu Fineliner Drawing Pen 8 Pack and the Ohuhu Hana Highway Fineliner Drawing Pens 18 Pack.…

The Grovemade Studio Pad is one beautiful desk pad, with more functionality than just about any other desk pad available. However, it hasn't been a slam dunk for me.Every desk accessory that comes out of Grovemade’s Portland design shop rockets to the top of my list. The Grovemade Desk, for instance, is the most tantalizing office product I can think of right now, as is Grovemade’s new rolling cart. But the product that started it all off was the Studio Pad. And being it’s the most affordable…
This is the ninth in a series of blog posts about the Material Programming Project. We are developing malleable knitting software for the Kniterate, a semi-industrial knitting machine. This post is about Auttoman, a new tool for structural knitting. The first post, on the Knitout project, is available here. programmable material structure using Auttoman! Annoyingly bad photo of B’s ottoman sample made with the Kniterate software (back, dark blue + yellow) and the equivalent sample made using…
