1. Moka pot and arrogant induction stoves (jesperreiche.com)

As I am sitting here typing away at the keys on my laptop the warmth of the coffee flows through the body and I go from too cold to too warm as the perspiration emerges on my forehead. The night has left me wanting for more sleep, but as the day emerged the inappropriateness of staying in bed forced me out. The coffee will hopefully replace the lost hours of sleep and not only overheat my rundown body.

You cannot possibly imagine the surprise on my face when a Happy Turn-themed train arrived on the platform. Inside they even had jumbo Happy Turn hung in the ad spaces, with loose powder in the wrappers. Happy Turn is a snack.

  4. Tsukemen gonokami seishakujo: prawn tsukemen in Shinjuku (Emma Goto)

Tsukemen gonokami seishakujo is a little tsukemen place a short walk from Shinjuku station. I find Shinjuku to be a little too crowded for my tastes, but this shop is tucked away on a quiet residential street which is more my speed. For those that are not familiar, tsukemen is an alternative form of ramen where the noodles and broth are served separately.

  5. New York In Michigan: the Coney Dog (Sandwich Tribunal)

When he tried the coney in 2013, Bourdain said this: "It seems like a simple thing: hot dog, chili, raw onion, mustard, steamed bun. But the delicate interplay between these ingredients, when done right, is symphonic." The post New York In Michigan: the Coney Dog first appeared on Sandwich Tribunal.

  7. Spicy Chicken Tinga (Mexican Please)

Getting loads of Tinga questions lately so I'm updating this spicy version to include the brine-and-bake method. Yes, you can still poach the chicken if you want, but lately I just give it a quick brine and then plop it in the oven. Please give it a try as the brine makes it dee-licious!  ... 14. The Gold Nugget mandarin tree: a profile (Greg Alder's Yard Posts: Southern Califo…)

“If I only had one citrus tree to live on for my entire life, this is it,” said our guide through the collection of about 1,000 varieties of citrus selected from around the world. That’s quite a claim. But, coming from Ottillia “Toots” Bier, we would be wise to consider it. She has tasted the […] The post The Gold Nugget mandarin tree: a profile appeared first on Greg Alder's Yard Posts: Southern California food gardening.

Fire House is my favourite burger shop in Japan - they sell apple hamburgers, which comes with slices of apple stacked on top of your hamburger patty. So good, no notes. Although Fire House is in a pretty central part of Tokyo, it's located in Bunkyo-ku which is probably not high on your list of places to visit if you're coming as a tourist. The Tokyo Dome is nearby, though!
