1. Day 10: Indianapolis, IN (Breakfast and Travel Updates)

Nau maiYesterday we played an outdoor show in Indianapolis. My breakfast yesterday was a bowl of granola with milk and yoghurt topped with blueberries and a very soft banana from the hotel lobby fruit basket. The weather was excellent all day. Nothing but sun and blue skies. Here we are on our way to get coffee before beginning load-in. Our venue was in the Fountain Square neighbourhood, a cultural district filled with handsome, old brick buildings. Here is the Lady Spray herself, the fountain…

Mix all…

  4. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Shahen-Shah (Jarrett House North)

Album of the Week, June 13, 2026 When it came time for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to record his first album for Peter Gabriel’s nascent Real World Records, he could have Westernized his sound—after all, he had just spent time in the studio with Gabriel on the Passion project. Instead, he and his party produced an album that was as accurate a representation of qawwali tradition that had ever been released, opening the door for Westerners to discover the tradition. Nusrat was not new to being…

  5. #5571: Mei Wei Taro Sticky Rice Pandan Flavor – United States (THE RAMEN RATER)

This isn’t ramen. That being said, here’s one I found at Evergreen Asian Market in Everett, Washington. Found quite a few gems at this place so that was rad. Pandan is a kind of nutty flavor – one of my favorite things is this little bubble tea joint we like that has pendan waffles – they’re green and quite tasty. Also the place is stupid expensive, so it is an exceedingly rare happening for us to end up in there. Anyways, pandan is great stuff. Let’s check this little rice cup out. Mei Wei…

A delicious berry, with a unique, oblong form, honeyberries are like kidney bean-shaped blueberries that grow from a small shrub. Long known as an edible in Japan and Russia, they're relatively unknown in most of North America but have been gaining popularity in the homesteading and food forest crowd for years now. 9. Mom’s Classic Strawberry Shortcake (Old‑Fashioned Cream Biscuit Recipe) (The English Kitchen)

Strawberry season has always held a special kind of magic, and this classic Mom’s Strawberry Shortcake captures every bit of that summertime nostalgia. Inspired by childhood days of picking wild berries along the railroad tracks — pink‑stained fingers, warm sunshine, and the sweet scent of ripe fruit in the air — this recipe celebrates the simple pleasures of the season. At the heart of this beloved dessert are my mother’s flaky, buttery cream biscuits, a family favorite that practically melts…

  10. Notes on Lamphun – Chiang Mai’s charming little neighbour (Nomadic Notes)

Lamphun is the capital of Lamphun province in northern Thailand. Lamphun province is next to Chiang Mai province, and their eponymously-titled capitals are only 19 km apart. Despite Lamphun’s proximity to Chiang Mai, I had somehow spent years of my life in Chiang Mai but had never visited Lamphun. It was time for me to visit Chiang Mai’s charming little neighbour. These are the notes of my trip to Lamphun in December 2025. Lamphun by train Not only is Lamphun ridiculously close to Chiang Mai,…

Fleischkuekle is a meat-filled hand pie popular in parts of North Dakota. 20. Easy Cube Steak with Mushroom Gravy (Classic Comfort Dinner) (The English Kitchen)

There’s something wonderfully old‑fashioned and comforting about a casserole of cube steak oven braised in a rich mushroom gravy. It’s the kind of supper many of us grew up with — simple, hearty, and deeply satisfying — the sort of meal that fills the kitchen with those “home” smells we never forget. This version keeps all that classic flavor, coated in a rich spicy and savory flour mixture and browning easily on the stovetop. It is then oven braised with a creamy mushroom gravy until it…

  21. Fluffy Banana More Popular Than Mai Tai (The Search for the Ultimate Mai Tai)

During our staycation weekend we had two late visits to Smuggler’s Cove, finding it full but not overly packed to enjoy the myriad cocktails the venue is famous for. We tried some old favorites including the Hibiscus Punch and a Mai Tai of course. I don’t exactly take precise attendance but we do take mental notes on what people are drinking when we go out. Often it is the venue’s signature cocktail or it might be the latest cocktail fad (hello, Espresso Martini), and at a tiki bar it’s often…

They prepared sashimi, right, and for some reason, the judges were like, ‘ Your sashimi is good, but you will need to elevate it more.’ How do you elevate a sashimi? It’s a raw and cold dish.” I’m paraphrasing, but you know the gist. That said, that was exactly my thought, too. I can understand if it’s beef tartare or carpaccio, but…
