Into the backyard.
Nice evening walk. Really liked the wispy (Cirrus?) clouds.

Out early today to avoid the upcoming heat. I guess the pony appreciated the timely visit – I assume he's not a fan of the high temperatures either. 👉 View 8 more images
Visited Villa Hügel with Daniel today. We thought: A park with lots of trees might work in this harsh (as in way too hot) weather conditions. And it kinda did! We moved from shade to shade and also had a look inside the villa. But most importantly: Dedicated photography time! 🙌 👉 View 12 more images
Observing color.
All the clouds were gone by mid-day. (Morning vs. afternoon commute) 👉 View one more image
The little one and I had our first Gruga Pommes of the season. 👉 View 3 more images
Yesterday I opted to share two color images. But I got more parrots! The specimen above is not super colorful anyway, so monochrome works perfectly this time. Again, pretty similar lighting conditions. I love the structure of the feathers in the second image. (BTW: The 55-200 mm is a totally underrated lens in the Fujifilm portfolio. I should use it more often!) The third photo is a pretty obvious shot, but I strive not for the obvious, that's why I like the first one as a great opener. It is…
I love Gruga in the early morning. I have the park almost to myself. Sometimes the ongoing maintenance is a bit annoying, since it mostly means some kind of loud machinery is being handled – but other than that I am very undisturbed. And the animals are not yet exhausted from hordes of kids banging at their enclosure. The parrots were very alert this morning and the light was also quite nice. Originally photographed in black and white – as I always do – but in the end I decided to go with color…
Got nothing interesting today. Didn't really find the time to photograph. But during my commute I realized that our bike was about to hit 10,000 km. I did some quick calculations and funnily it amounts to almost exactly our daily commute every weekday since we got it. 😊 👉 View one more image
Coming home. Didn't leave the house today. Still not feeling super well – kinda up and down from day to day, really weird.
We held a very belated birthday party for Lumi today. (Back on her actual birthday, we didn't have a kitchen yet.) The kids made their own little fairy gardens. Since the weather was not great we had to do it indoors. I think they had fun and I love seeing them being creative. 👉 View 2 more images

Quiet afternoon walk during a break in the rain. I think the gloomy weather suits my photography – or maybe I was just happy to be outside taking pictures. I found a couple of hearts along the way – and at first, I only wanted to post those three images. But I found more photos that I liked, so a total of eight it is today. 👉 View 7 more images
Corona flip.
Short evening walk to get some steps in. Still not 100%, but feeling a bit better than yesterday.
Observing color. Felt a bit under the weather today, hopefully better tomorrow. 🤞
Yesterday's visit was only a test. Today, Tiny stayed for almost the whole day, because our friends (her owners) had lots of family over which is always quite stressful for the little dog. Ulya and the kids took her outside for the whole midday and afternoon so she was really tired in the end.
Pretty full day! Inliner maintenance; skateboard practice; observing reflections; playing Monsterjäger; swinging in the backyard; macro photography in the afternoon sun; grocery run featuring an A41 reflection; had a tiny k9 visitor. 👉 View 7 more images
No rain today, so the path was clear – I love to see her this excited! I was asked (once again) how this blog is built so decided to finally added a colophon page. 🙂
Back at Gruga for a nice afternoon walk. 👉 View 2 more images
It rained all day. Spent the whole day indoors – aside from the morning and midday commute. Just now, I remembered I need a photo. So, here: The board (unused today)
Love seeing my work printed! Especially that big. (I think that's A2, if I am not mistaken.) I'll have a lot of my images framed and hanging all over the three collective.ruhr (the co-working space I've been part of since 2018!) locations very soon! 👉 View 2 more images
All free time goes into being on the board right now. I am there for it! Marc wrote a very nice post about my photography at beyond tellerrand. ❤️
Bought a skateboard for Lumi yesterday. We even went to a proper skate shop in Düsseldorf. Maybe I went a little overboard (no pun intended), but my thinking is that if she has a really good one, she'll probably have more fun and learn faster than with a cheap one. She now owns the kind of skateboard I always wanted as a kid – I never properly learned, probably because the one I had was too heavy and clunky. Funny thing is, she never took to inline or roller skating, but taught herself to be…
After the recent woodpecker sighting I took the long lens out into the backyard yesterday hoping to get another shot. But I had to pivot to insects after the birds were a no show. Still quite happy with the image I got. I guess I'll share the following link a couple of times in the coming days to make sure everybody knows about it: my latest beyond tellerrand gallery is live.
Out and about with the little one. We took the bikes and went on a ride. Stopped at the same playground twice and we had ice cream. Pretty good day! Also very happy how the image above turned out. I always try to find new angles to shoot from. Might try a wider focal length next time. 🥁 Drumroll please: Very happy to announce that the beyond tellerrand 2026 gallery is now live! Please share far and wide!
Welcome back to the regular old mix of subjects. Today I spotted a spotted woodpecker in the backyard. I even managed to get the long lens (still not long enough though) in time to grab a couple of shots. I am on the final stretch with the beyond tellerrand images. 200 images left in the final selection. The goal is to get that number down to around 150 to make them more digestible. I find this to be a good amount that is not overwhelming while still substantial, if that makes sense. I really…
A couple of random impressions from beyond tellerrand. I love putting these together. (The firetruck is not in there by mistake btw, there was a fire alarm at the hotel at 6 in the morning and everybody had to leave their rooms…) I am still in the process of going through all of the images to create the final gallery. Stay tuned! Also, I wanted to say, I am very grateful for the kind words I received over the last couple of days regarding the photos (in person and online) – it is very much…
