  2. Ch-Ch-Changes

James sent me this the other day. That’s Gwen, tired. I left my place of employment. The weight of the last job was unhealthy and so I took action. I don’t like it when something with promise turns rancid. I don’t know what’s next, but I can be hired to do any number of web things. I can fix websites, I can migrate websites, I can update software, I write in any number of programming languages and have skills in both frontend and backend. Reach out and say hello. I can also be a tutor, a guide,…

  3. Moving Water

Yesterday I went to the beach. Water is always in motion. I have many opinions and intuitions about the motion of water. I go to the beach when I am likely to be able to ride waves. I make myself aware of time and tide, wind and the size and shape of water. James mentioned to me yesterday that he had seen the painting Surf, from 1937, and shared it with me. He mentioned that I might appreciate it. I do. What stood out to me is how it captures water in motion. The blast of surf crashing and…

  5. HTML Day was yesterday

The River Park was great. Wonderful time, wonderful company. Here’s a group photo The event page has been updated with that photo, and others. Once again, my domain joespartydepot.com yields fun usages such as htmlday.joespartydepot.com. ioflow brought Zines! And I got to draw on paper on a table, which is among my favorite things to do. On the day, I wanted to answer the prompt: How can a website move like the wind? With a page which would take microphone input and then move elements on the…

  6. Send a friend a webmention!

Today is “Send a Friend a Webmention Day!” What’s that? See indieweb.org/send_a_friend_a_webmention_day, and the 2026 event page. I’m running late, and these folks may not have websites which support webmentions but nonetheless they are great friends, acquaintances, or really interesting people worth knowing about. Have a great weekend everyone! And now, the list (in randomized order!) Ross Britt Pablo Joanne Paul Taco Dave Mike Fluffy Gwen Derek Marty Mark Nick Angelo

  7. Tuesday Notes

So much in my mind and notebooks. It’s good. Last week I started a page with rough ideas which I might implement at some point. It’s at /ideas/. Comic-Con was so great. Still a few more days to get in an entry to this month’s IndieWeb Carnival. In a few days will be Send a friend a Webmention Day. I will try to send some. I’ve heard from a few people about San Diego HTML Day 2026. Will I see you there? Reach out! And that’s it for now. Sign my Guestbook | Contact Me | Book office hours | Share

  8. Notes from Thursday at Comic Con

I wore my “Q” cosplay. We drove to the former movie-theater where Gwen boards during Comic-Con. After all, these are long days away from home, and so Gwen gets a vacation, too. While we were walking her before dropping her off a fellow yelled at me, “Q!” He came up to me and asked where my head piece was. (I hadn’t put on my cowl). It was an odd moment but fun. On the trolley to the Convention Center we met a group of folks who wore matching colorful Mars rover t-shirts. I asked about them and…

  11. Yesterday’s session

Even mediocre conditions can make great sessionsI saw a surfer in the water smiling big. Conditions were middling. Closeouts. Pretty choppy. There were some corners to be had, but a lot of fierce paddling by surfers ending in not-ridden waves. The smiling man was smiling SO BIG. He looked like maybe he’d burst into song–like a 1950s Hollywood Musical. Not a young guy. Not too old. His ebullience was intriguing. I saw him take off on a wave. I moved a bit away. When I go out and bodysurf with…

  13. Our doubts… (Measure for Measure)

  14. Oh boy updates.

  15. Neocities

Screenshot of the default view of a new website on Neocities Note that it helps a newbie visualize a website as a set of files. Note that it includes a link to download the entire site. This came up because I’m listening in on a session at Nuremberg IndieWeb Camp 2026. Sign my Guestbook | Contact Me | Book office hours | Share

  16. Washington D.C.

Last week I took some days off for a family event. It was a lovely trip. It’s commonplace to dread flying in the United States these days, and so it was terrific that it was uneventful. In addition to family time which I won’t share, Kelly and I got to tool around D.C. and Virginia a bit. Kelly had not been to the area since ’81 when Reagan was shot. And we got to go to a great museum: National Museum of African American History and Culture. It’s a great example of how long the struggle to get…

  17. Sunday.

First thing firstly: I went to OB this morning. It was uneventful. Chilly. Wonderful after several days of not being in the ocean. I was in Northern Virginia / Washington D.C. Instagram used to be where I’d post trip photos. As the platform has worsened, I do it less. That obliges me to post here more. Or somewhere at least. It was a family trip. It was great. I’ll post more later. In the meantime, have a great week. Sign my Guestbook | Contact Me | Book office hours | Share

  19. I don’t believe in karmic balance.

But maybe I do. When last I posted, I mentioned that I lost a fin in the big surf. That was on June 9, Tuesday. I've lost stuff before. A fin in 2025, which I got back. And 2021, which I didn't. And gotten them back before. So when I left early to take see if the fin might have turned up on the beach overnight I sorted the odds of recovery at about 60%. Not perfect odds, but fair odds. So for the morning walk, I took Gwen with me down to San Diego's own Ocean Beach and parked. We walked onto…

  20. There’s enough swell in the water for me to lose a fin (DaFin, XL, blue with white tip) during a wipeout. I know that much. But I have no complaints.

  21. I went to Tourmaline yesterday. Javier @quantumprimordial invited me to come out and schedules aligned and it was a great after-work session. It was closing out and lots of board surfers to avoid but there was plenty of fun to be had. Share the stoke.

  23. QOTD: Digital Pope

From MAGNIFICA HUMANITAS: ON SAFEGUARDING THE HUMAN PERSON IN THE TIME OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE by Pope Leo XIV: …those who control digital platforms and means of communication have a considerable ability to affect the collective imagination and to present a particular vision of reality as desirable. Such power should be constantly guided by the pursuit of truth and respect for human dignity, so that the culture fostered on the internet does not become an instrument of excessive distraction,…

  26. Tuesday

I made a new mix the other day. Mellow Drama. Today in the water phrases from some of the songs kept coming to me. The waves were fine. Unextraordinary. Still would not trade this random Tuesday with most other days. Sign my Guestbook | Contact Me | Book office hours | Share

  29. Miscellaneousiciouslification

If you have not yet fired up Junior Senior’s “MOVE YOUR FEET” today this is your signal to do so. (YT) Sydney Sweeney was apparent giantized in the show Euphoria and it hit my transom and so I updated my Giant Women page. I am too old to watch the show Euphoria. I won’t think too hard about the psychological reasons for my interest in giant sized women, but I will quote myself from twitter from 2013: Male gaze is the native gaze of my people. Sorry. Moving right along, and with great dispatch,…
