I will give Cruz Beckham 6 out of 10 for his attempt at moonwalking in this video for his latest single Wear & Tear. It was a brave decision but didn’t quite hit the heights. With names like “Asphalt Lament” and the title track, “TokyØhum,” you know DJ Krush is back to his trademark urban atmospherics. He has described the album’s theme as “the pulse of the city.” The graffiti style cover’s vibe is along the lines of what if Lebbeus Woods drew a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action sequence. The music is rarely as abstract as Krush’s classic Kakusei, but what it lacks in willful dissonance it balances with soundtrack-ready mood-setting. I’m playing it on repeat.

Jazz kissaten pride themselves on hi-fi listening setups. Bokunen's website lists the exact equipment they use. Visitors face the speakers, with the best seats in the middle. The sound quality is sublime. It is a bar built for listening, not talking.

I love the aesthetics, ambience, and history of jazz kissaten. I traveled out to Kanazawa to visit this one. I was not disappointed.
