Review: Thætas – The Irredeemable Age

Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 26th June 2026 I missed the well regarded ‘Shrines of Absurdity’ debut from New York death metal titans Thætas back in 2020 because, well, the world was falling apart and I wasn’t quite so deep in the modern lore of death metal. Years later, I got wind that their new record was coming out and everyone was really hyped. So I went back and did the research that the world expects before ‘The Irredeemable Age’ comes out and it has a reasonably high bar to clear as a sophomoric record. It is out now through the legendary Profound Lore Records. Opener ‘DHUKA’ couldn’t really start more perfectly, with a massive braindead chugging breakdown punctured by squealing pinch harmonics and some of the most unholy vo-kills you’ve heard in a long time. Clearly the influence of Suffocation, Immolation and Dying Fetus has rubbed off hard on these guys, as Thætas channel the most classic of NYDM brutality into their maelstrom of torment.
