1. Red Marinade (Aaron Massicotte)

The red comes from tomato paste and two paprikas rather than anything exotic. Everything in it is a hard herb with heat-stable oils, which is what makes it a marinade for searing rather than something you spoon over at the end. It was written for chicken and works exactly the same on turkey, which is what was in the fridge Building the marinade is this post. The dressing that goes with it and the sear itself are in Sauce and sear

  2. Seventy Flavours of Soft Serve?! (ruk.ca - Peter Rukavina's Weblog)

From Seventy Flavours, Vanilla by Clark MacLeod:The actual highlight of the day was a visit to Pictou, a town I’ve driven past many times and always wondered about. There isn’t much to see — an expensive leather goods shop, the usual tourist draws around old architecture, not unlike Charlottetown. What made the day was a stop at Thompson’s Dairy Bar, which boasts around seventy soft serve flavours. Despite the selection, I had vanilla.Perhaps worth taking the ferry back home for!

  4. Sweet Potato Leaves (Forager | Chef)

Sweet potato leaves are edible, and a delicious traditional food. While Americans know the sweet, starchy tubers, around the world both the tubers and tender green leaves are eaten where the plants are grown. Edible is an understatement too, considering how cheap and delicious these are. Today I'll walk you through processing them with a... 5. Italian Bar (Cuppa.blog)

Washington DC On a day trip into DC we stopped here. It's right across the street from one of our favorite bookstores, Politics and Prose. It's a bar serving coffee in the mornings and alcohol at night. I love this little stretch of Connecticut Ave and the neighborhood. We ordered iced lattes with oat milk. They were delicious! The espresso was a great flavor and it was very refreshing on a hot day.

Hello — if you’re here, thank you. You probably know who I am, but if not, my name is Hans, and I’ve been blogging about instant ramen noodles for over 20 years. I’ve spanned over 5,000 reviews, creating images, write-ups, and videos all about the world of the humble instant noodle. For a while now, one key piece of equipment I rely on has been going worse and worse — my desktop computer. I got it quite a while back. Lately, it’s been rebooting or just shutting off when it wants to. Some USB…

  14. ignis, Sendagi (Emma Goto)

ignis is a small pourover coffee store off the Yanaka Ginza shopping street in the Sendagi / Yanaka area. We went here at the recommendation of one of my readers (thanks, keep them coming!) Having visited the area recently to check out some other coffee shops, we’re beginning to realise that Sendagi and Yanaka are a bit of a coffee hot spot. They have a number of different beans available for their pourover, ranging from 1000 to 4000 yen for a cup. They had 3 from Ethiopia, two from Panama and…

  17. 10 Summer CSA Vegetables and What to Make With Them (Store-Bought Is Fine)

I dream about being the type of cook who wanders through a farmers market, gets inspired by whatever is in season, and runs home to make something simple and delicious without consulting a single recipe. The reality is that I am extremely recipe-bound. I shop with a detailed list, rarely impulse-buy, and often have meals planned weeks, sometimes months, in advance between recipe development and content planning. Ask me to freestyle a farmers market dinner and I immediately forget every…

  19. Wine Review: LUNAE Vermentino Colli di Luni D.O.C. 2024 (Exploring the Philosophy of Food and Win…)

100% Vermentino; steel fermented, aged in steel on fine lees for 3 months; fruit from controlled vineyards in the foothills of Luni, Castelnuovo Magra, and Sarzana. Price in the $25-$35 range. 12.5% Alc. This Vermentino from Liguria isn’t an especially aromatic wine. It’s more about texture and movement. It opens briefly with generous ripe pear and citrus with a short spell of lees-derived creaminess rounding out the mid-palate. But then mineral discipline takes over. Fine-grained dry extract…

  21. Ammonite Coffee Market, Hongo (Emma Goto)

Ammonite Coffee is a roaster and cafe that sits a short walk away from the University of Tokyo campus in Hongo. Maybe it’s because of the location, but it had probably the most reasonable price I have ever seen in Tokyo for a decent cup of pourover coffee - only 600 yen. They had a number of single origin beans you could choose from - Kenya, Costa Rica and others - as well as a couple of their own blends as well. Regardless of the price, they were all only 600 yen for a cup. All the beans are…

But I usually don’t delete the draft because hey, maybe one day I’ll go back and finish it. So there they sit in the draft folder. 2026/07/22 Wednesday Today I made stuffed eggplant, and it turned out pretty good :) On this cooking entry there won't be music, I'm still deciding if I will continue the playlist or start others... and I think I'm going to make a cooking index for recipes and entries where I made them... Anyway, I had two big-ass eggplants, one also big but a bit smaller, four tomatoes, and I grated some mozzarella to start. Then I scooped the eggplant insides with a spoon and chopped the contents into small…

The Highroller’s Lobster Grilled Cheese made me a believer: lobster and cheese can peacefully coexist. 30. Tuesdays with Dorie DAC: Corn Toasties (a whisk and a spoon)

I assume that Corn Toasties are a riff on Thomas’ Corn Toast-R-Cakes, which I admit I’ve never had, but have always appealed to me all the same. Just tall enough to split in half and slather with butter, these cute little golden cornbreads are baked in a jumbo muffin tin. They’re a little sweet, not too crumbly, and truly are anytime cakes. They’re good for breakfast, good with a bowl of chili, and Dorie says they even make fine berry shortcakes and tomato sandwiches. I froze what we didn’t eat…
