There were two clients who basically were paying for ChatGPT…to argue against itself. – Rob Freund My friend Chester Brown, the well-known comic book artist, plays Merlin in this video from Sook-Yin Lee‘s new album. The links above the video were provided by Jesse Walker and Dan Savage; IncarcerNation; The Onion; Mike Masnick; Ryan Marino; and IncarcerNation again (x2). R.I.P. Rajasaurus narmadensisIn the humid, fern-thick forests of Late Cretaceous India — about 67 million years ago — a flash of red moves between the tree trunks.Think oxidized iron and dried blood — deep crimson-orange broken by pale white striping and bold black bands along the flanks and tail. In dappled forest light, those stripes would fracture the animal’s outline, a trick modern tigers use

Percy Montgomery "Monte" Barrett was an American author, newspaperman and cartoon writer from Mitchell, Indiana, who co-created with artist Frank Ellis the original "spunky girl reporter" character, Jane Arden – cited as the prototype for similar characters like Lois Lane. More importantly than having co-created an internationally syndicated daily comic strip, Barrett had a brief stint as a mystery novelist during the early 1930s.Barrett wrote three novels, The Pelham Murder Case (1930), Murder…

Imagine, for a moment, the following scenario. The Ford Motor Company releases a slick whitepaper making the alarming claim that they’re concerned their popular F-150 pickup trucks might soon spontaneously burst into flames. The report features a fancy animated graphic depicting a line of vehicles catching on fire, one after another, and concludes by acknowledging that this “possible future” would be bad, but that there’s nothing they can do about the issue so long as “less cautious” automobile…

Avengers The movies, overrated with the exception of Infinity War/Endgame which was some of the best movie experiences I've ever had. The comics, underrated. The stories from the comics is where it's at but it's not a medium that everyone can enjoy. There are so many great Avengers and Avengers-adjacent stories available if you're willing to give it a try. My recommendation is Kelly Thompson's West Coast Avengers run. Weeknotes Underrated. I love reading people's weeknotes and I've found it a…

It’s 9.16 on Monday 22 June 2026, the day after Midsummer’s Day, and everybody is expecting Keir Starmer to resign as prime minister. The excitement has caused me to reflect on my personal links with British prime ministers. Winston Churchill was the prime minister when I was born in 1952. I have no personal connection with him, but my father, whose father was at Gallipoli, who fought at El Alamein, and was in Colditz with Churchill’s nephew, didn’t like Churchill. He had the working class…

This weekend, I attended my first artist expo at Jackson’s The Sparks summer open house. Jen Dixon from my Artists In Jackson 2 project asked me to join. A free table around a bunch of artists and community members provided a great opportunity to promote my portrait projects and sell a few prints. And that’s […]

Let's start from the basics: can you introduce yourself? I'm a developer and dad to two girls living in Portsmouth on the south coast of the UK. By day I work for a SaaS company and in my own time I work on my many side projects. In a previous life I worked at a certain clown's restaurant which is where I met my wife some 15 years ago. Although developer is what I get paid to do I'm trying to move towards more making; websites, stickers, shirts, art, whatever. I have no idea what that looks…

i emerge out of the fog the body survived the mind i believe has changed peering into myself i see everything that is broken years of covering it up with preoccupation gave myself no space for growth the mastery of my skill to pass through time and exist just enough that my ego is satisfied at the expense of others deep down i do not like who i see inside i wish i was either courageous enough to change myself or not so self aware that i find ways to live with it frozen actions in observations…

I have been sitting in front of my screens watching various agents perform tasks for me, like I have been for several months now. It just struck me what a change this is compared to how I was working nine months ago, a year ago. I wouldn’t say that we have reached anything resembling AGI (or whatever the catchword is these days) although these tools are remarkable, today. I still feel it is important to retain a healthy dose of skepticism about the output of these models. There are still many…

Amiibo: Mega Man by SHYCITYNikon, shared via CC BY-NC 2.0 / Dithered with a gradient overlay I don’t know why but Mega Man has never appealed to me. Sure he looks cool, the franchise has a ton of great characters that I recognise via 2000’s YouTube Poop osmosis, and they even based a Pokémon on it (partially anyway). But my brain decided he was just a little dude in a blue mech suit and that’s wasn’t my style. This weekend I decided to prove myself wrong and with the help of Sean Seanson’s…

There are not many things I am properly proud of, so writing this one down feels a little odd. I did my first triathlon on Sunday and came away with the win in my age category, and I have read that back enough times now that it still has not really sunk in.My last post was one long admission of how scared I was, going over how swimming had kept me out of this for years and how the fear of the unknown was the last thing left standing in my way. Triathlons have always been something I quietly…

The 2026 edition of the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America is now in the books. It was the most intriguing IndyCar race held here since the series returned to this massive 4.088-mile track in 2016. There have been wild finishes, like the year Josef Newgarden lost power on the last lap while leading. There […]

With our 2026 Open Day just six days away, we take a closer look at some of the games that members are putting on. We start with Chris S and Dave S who will be running a game of Legions Imperialis. As a neat twist Chris has been kitbashing units and buildings for the game. A bridgelayer tank has been converted with some parts from other tracked vehicles. Buildings and tower blocks have been constructed from scratch. And a great selection of old toys have been chopped up and reconstructed to…

I find my camera cabinet to be surprisingly full. And I have rule that all of my cameras need to fit in there, and when I buy another camera, if I can’t make it fit, something else has to go. So I’m busy shooting some cameras that have accumulated to determine whether they get to stay. I’ve already decided to say goodbye to my Kodak EasyShare C613 and Kodak EasyShare Z710, both fine performers with great color — because neither can accurately date files anymore, given that the date range ended…

What’s inside these fake row houses that blend into the New York City streetscape? (Ephemeral New York)
You’re forgiven if you assumed 58 Joralemon Street was just another beautifully restored Greek Revival row house in Brooklyn Heights. Built in 1847, it resembles many of the elegant single-family houses on the block, with its red brick facade, long windows, and brownstone trim around the entryway. But take a closer look, and you’ll notice some oddities. For starters, the windows are black, and no curtains or blinds hang behind them. No personal effects sitin the windows or on the stoop, like a…

The fox continues to prowl around our chickens. This morning we caught it in the GARDEN a few feet from our favourite chicken. Luckily the magpies warned us and we were able to scare it away. It's not nice keeping the little cluckers cooped up in this heat, but needs must unfortunately. Thanks for reading this post via RSS. RSS is ace, and so are you. ❤️ You can reply to this post by email, or leave a comment.

I wanted to visit TVC to monitor the construction of the house and help Kiran set up the fiber backbone for internet connectivity. TVC is roughly 90 kms from MG Road. It’s a good distance with variation to test my Yamaha and see how it performs over a long distance. If it can do 200 Kms in a day, it can probably do 350 Kms. And I don’t think I can ride more than that on this motorcycle in a day. I left early at 6:20 AM and took a break in Anekal for breakfast at Raghavendra Bhawan. Then I took…

I took a gamble on some Noctilucents reappearing last night with a 40 minute drive out to the coast, and then a 20 minute walk to find a clear view of the Northern horizon. There is never any guarantee the clouds will show up, but I have read many reports that the summer solstice brings more activity. I'm not really sure why, or if there is a genuine scientific reason for that, and perhaps its just more so that its bang in the middle of a typical Noctilucent season (late May-late July). PS.…

Marcie, in her last blog, wrote about our visit to Pioche, Nevada—a quiet little town tucked into the mountains of Lincoln County. We strolled past historic buildings, admired old mining relics, and snapped photos of the famous Million Dollar Courthouse. It’s hard to imagine that this peaceful place was once considered one of the bloodiest towns in the American West.During the silver boom of the early 1870s, Pioche exploded from a remote mining camp into a thriving boomtown. Along with miners,…

When you’re leading a one-off singing workshop, or have large influx of new members to your choir, there will be lots of people who don’t know each other. Here are a few simple ways to mix people up so there’s less chance of things becoming cliquey. mixing people up Whenever I lead a singing workshop, I always mix people up before the warm-up. I ask singers to stand in a circle in a particular order, then introduce themselves to the people either side of them if they don’t already know them.…
