  1. ambivalence

What if i told you that there is a US military weapons manufacture that put Hello Kitty on one of their products? I'd technically be telling the truth. Anyways, I found out that I might be flying to Taiwan on the Eva Air Hello Kitty & Friends plane! A cute Boeing 777...Imagine. Next time It'll be a bedazzled Airbus. I'm going to be glued to the gate window along with all the children. Big smile on my face. How long till they do that on their military drone? So that the other children aren't…

  2. RE: Neocities Intimidates Me

Original Post. R Writes about how intimidating it is to build your own website. It intimidated me too! It's a level of code that brings me back to my computational linguistics course senior year. I still don't know Python after 16 weeks of learning. However, I did it. On a similar static web hosting service, Nekoweb. Trying to get through my last days of work has been boring, so I finally decided to learn the shit I've been intimidated by. I like Nekoweb since you can do more for free, but they…

  3. 1.5 years since a date

I wrote an emotionally charged post in March. It felt like a page full of complaining, which I hate reading myself. But I also wish there were similar posts that are candid about their dating struggles that don't coat it in "It will come when I least expect it" or "Dating [sex] is useless because they ALL suck." It's been over a year since my last date. This is kinda from lack of trying; I don't have those apps anymore. Hinge/Tinder/Bumble dates are easy to get since many people will go on…

  4. bodycam videos are a moral grey

Peep the darker background. And happy July. Not all bodycam channels are bad. I watch EWU BodyCam all the time. I sometimes watch Midwest Safety, but the robotic voice annoys me. For the most part, the footage allows for a real, somewhat raw view of police interactions, which is needed in a country like the US. 1 However, I have two negative things to say about this genre of YouTube video: 1. When you get into some smaller channels, or even the comments of big channels like Midwest Safety, you…

  5. Passport privilege

While applying for this visa stuff, I'm seeing passport privilege in real time. I'm handling the paperwork and looking at the Resident Visa Health Check that I need to do. The tests include Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Measles & Rubella, Hansen's disease and Parasites. I only have to do the Tuberculosis, Syphilis, and Measles/Rubella tests. I was vaccinated throughout my life so the Measles and Rubella is a breeze, and the other tests are easy. My only complaint is that they are expensive. Syphilis…

  6. i want to go to a furry convention

I'm not even a furry, yet I really wanted to go the the US Midwest Furfest. However, it's in December and I won't be in the US. I've been saying I wanted to go for a while now, but I was a broke, jobless heathen until recently. My sisters think I'm joking. I went to the Wisconsin Renaissance Fair last year for the first time. I've never dressed up in public like that before (I never did Halloween stuff.) The energy around people who will happily walk around town dressed like a viking or fairy…

  7. lies that limit language learning

Alliteration is so fun. Alternative title: my pet peeves For 10 years now, I've cycled through phases of learning Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Amazingly, 2026 marks a decade of consuming Chinese culture. I’m so used to seeing Chinese characters and I know pinyin perfectly, but I’m still not fluent in the language. :( My main language of study in college was Japanese. I took it for three and a half years and even took a Japanese linguistics class. TAUGHT FULLY IN JAPANESE. By all accounts, I…

  8. It's June already?

Every time I post, I imagine a Disney Channel style crowd cheering. I'm surprised that its already June. My mind had felt occupied. I can't tell if its the taiwan stuff or this new medication. I'm going to ask my doctor if I can wean off. I'm not doing therapy, as recommended, because I gotta save money. So taking medication is a waste; it doesn't work without CBT, according to my doctor. Plus I think it's giving me headaches. I've been writing a lot now that it's summer. I'm still working, but…

  9. my grandmother passed away

The first thing i thought was “this isn’t fair.” the second thing i thought was that if i have kids, no matter where im living, my mom will meet my child. I'll put money aside for it. it was in elementary school when I learned that it was uncommon for people to not know their grandparents. “I spent summer at my grandparents house” made me a bit jealous. or the concept of walking to your grandma's house and her feeding you so much that you knew you’ll be full for days. My maternal grandmother…

  10. the first half of may is over and I'm free

As of writing this, its 9:30am on May 15th. I'm waiting for a few students to come and pick up their stoles for graduation. They won't be attending the ceremony tonight. Good, things will get done faster. It starts at 4:30pm. I did everything for it; catering, booking, RSVP, certificates, stoles, emails. The whole slideshow. This was my second time running this event. Last year, I came in about 4-5 weeks before the event, and had to rush everything. It was okay, but not up to my standards. I…

  11. being allergic to air

I've spoken on my food allergies before, somewhat lightheartedly. However that was not the full extent of my allergies. I also have pollen allergies. It could be the specific trees in the Great Lakes area; I don't remember having bad allergies while in Korea. Nevertheless, I am fully allergy-drugged out of my mind during spring. Last night, I couldn't sleep. I usually breathe through my nose when sleeping, to prevent drooling. But of course the residual pollen in the air of my house or on my…

  12. I'm...going to taiwan?

When I graduated in December 2024, I specifically graduated early so i could get a full time job sooner, to save up for moving out of the country. I had applied to the Fulbright English Teaching program in Taiwan. I heard that Taiwan has the most spots, plus I can speak a bit of Mandarin. Why not? In early February 2025, I got the results. Rejected. I cried like a damn baby. I texted my mom and she came down to my room, which she never does. She knows how boundaries work with adult children.…

  13. the dating app curse

The devil on my left shoulder whispered in my ear and told me to re-download Hinge yesterday at work. I'm so stressed about the upcoming grad ceremony and retirement party I'm planning that I am frozen and can't focus. I did not get the app. My iPhone is still on an older IOS version, so most apps aren't working anymore. I hate the look of the IOS 26 update, so I've been holding off on updating it. It's essentially a dumbphone now. But I still want to. I'm kind of craving connection (or is it…

  14. feeling doomed is natural, unfortunately

Doomerism feels inescapable was the first post i read this morning. It's so true. I used to call myself a pessimist before college. Then in college, i felt a bit better, and be came an optimist. Being surrounded by diverse, smart humans gives you a glimpse of hope. Then while in college. Generative AI appeared, and things changed. Senior year, my last course was computational linguistics. I don't know how to code but I tried. The professor encouraged the use of AI. And I tried it, but it…
