It is so weird to wake up and have nowhere to be. And then have moments in the afternoon where I could genuinely nap for the rest of the day and there would be no one checking up on me. I don’t think I like it. In the last seven days, I’ve been to pub poker, board game night, and a date. I had so much empty time before each that when I was travelling, I almost had out of body experiences, like these things were happening to someone else. I made a to-do list two weeks ago but only crossed off…
My last day at British Telecom was the 2nd of July. Truly I can say that nothing substantive happened in the two years I was there. I changed a lot, though. My biggest worry is that my focus skills, my determination to do work, my interpersonal practice has atrophied. I’m scared that I’m not going to enjoy my next job starting in August and that when I start it will be another two years of not being challenged or engaged. It’s only been a week, and I really haven’t done anything significant.…
Last Friday I was walking down a long, straight paved path with a thick, heavy carry-all bag containing some clothes and small pieces. I am still moving my stuff from Cheltenham to Bath. This is following a job change and a break-up (don’t worry, it was civil). I was facing a journey home of 90 minutes on the train, the sun was already going down, and I was fighting the urge to just stop walking. Of course, I kept going, since I’m still alive to relate this, but I haven’t felt quite so acutely…
I have moved from Cheltenham to Bath as of this month, in preparation for a new job starting in August. Ultimately, I’m just exhausted. Everything is unfamiliar and I still have to commute an hour each way to my old work until the end of the month. And so all my anxiety is transitory and temporary but I just want it to be over now, and for my new flat to feel like home and not like the unfurnished blank echoey space it was when I got the keys not three weeks ago. Funnily enough I also found a…
I just set up command-line multi-language dictionary lookup. It amazes me that there are people in the world who have put so much work into making software functional and free to use. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants. Installation and Usage: sudo apt-get install dictd sudo vim /etc/default/dictd (change the locale from en-US to en-GB) sudo apt-get install dict-freedict-eng-pol dict-freedict-pol-eng dict -d fd-eng-pol cool Output: 1 definition found From English - Polish Piotrowski+S...
Don’t worry, this one isn’t a serious addiction like drugs or gambling, I wanted to tell the world that I bought Slay the Spire 2 on a friend’s recommendation and now I can’t stop playing. Well, I can go to the office and not play the game but still think about the game and also setup multiplayer sessions for the evening, or I can write blog posts about the game but also not actually play it, and you know it’s a little all-consuming that I don’t do much else with my weekends and evenings, I s...
WHY can I not add an .ics file from my non-native Mail app into the Calendar app? WHY??? This is the most basic functionality for a phone operating system, and it’s missing. Do people at Apple not use their own products?
On Monday of this week I was seized by an uncontrollable desire to move back to the first city I lived in post-uni. It was such a strong impulse that I couldn’t fall asleep until 2:30am. I’ve long been a believer of the mantra “never trust how you feel about your life after 10pm”, which is typically when most of my negative thoughts happen, but… This impulse was uncharacteristic for me in that 1) it was a positive idea, imagined as moving towards something rather than running away from someth...
