Back to May. Aside from Sleeping Beauty, all of these were part of the Super Saturday Movie Club, whose monthly theme this time was "Monstrous-Feminine". June 6 - In My Skin (2002)A good, if understated movie. Not shot very memorably but this sober, almost workmanlike style added up to be greater than the sum of its parts. It deals with femininity in such a relatable fashion that I was quite touched at moments. It deals heavily in self-repression and not showing emotions, though I wasn't very…
IF YOU MAKE A POST BLOG THAT IS ONLY A THEORY OR A NEW COOL RULE OR CLASS OR A SORD OR A THEORY AND WHEN I READ ITIT MAKES A SNIKT SHINK SOUND, YOU HAVE TO PROVE TO ME THAT YOU'VE ACTUALLY TESTED IT AT THE END: PU´T A PLAY REPORT TELLING ME EXACTLY WHEN WHERE HOW AND WHY YOU PUT THAT IN A REAL WORLD GAME THAT REALLY HAPPENED – AND IT CAN’T BE JUST A "Oh I played it in a one-shot" IT HAS TO BE DETAILED CLOSELY AND IN A REAL ACTIVE CAMPAIGN. IF YOU DON’T TO DO THAT YOU AUTIMATICALLY LOSE THE…
These are the rules I use to structure And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, an eminently social game based almost entirely on player relationships. Hearts Aglow, however, deals with a university, but this doesn't need to be the case in your game. Instead of "Finals" you can very well have tax day, and instead of "studying" you can have the "tend your land" action, etc. This procedure is very influenced by Ironsworn. There was a flash and the floor seemed to fall upwards to meet my face. I smelled…
She doesn't look like your type, yet you would expect people have told her entire life she was beautiful. Not beautiful enough for them to want to stay, but certainly beautiful. There is no stronger motivation in a Possessor Girl's life than getting attention, and no force more powerful than her own feelings of inadequacy. She will contort herself to breaking if it means others will pay attention, will validate her existence, will tell her she's the prettiest, most special person they've ever…
Since I don't watch a lot of TV shows, I've decided to lump them in with the books I've read and muse on both. Revolutionary Girl Utena - This is what I was watching already from the end of the year and into the start of the year. I took time out from my books so I could watch more of it, and my ultimate conclusion is that it is... fine. It is an extremely repetitive and formulaic show; a character's backstory is introduced along with the B-plot, they decide they have to fight Utena over it,…
Back to April. Aside from the Avatar movie, all of these were part of the Super Saturday Movie Club, whose monthly theme this time was "Vampires". May 2 - Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)I've mentioned before that MPV, the programme I use to watch movies, lets you quick-save a screencap by pressing the S key. For most movies I tend to end up with around 25 to 30 screen caps; I saved 46 shots from this movie. This is an amazingly moody piece, shot in digital which gives the night scenes an…
Back to March. All of these were part of the Super Saturday Movie Club, whose monthly theme this time was "Revolution". I unfortunately did not get to watch the third movie, The Battle of Algiers (1966), even though it was part of the reason I wanted this theme in the first place. Apr 4 - I Am Cuba (1964)Very much a filmmaker's film, a very "pure" movie so to speak. It is almost entirely focused on the cinematography and the visual - it is not the kind of movie that will make you cry, or relate…
To the Archon of Burdock's Valley, Lord Iskander Basileon, Imperial salutations, etc. This song was taken from one of the rabblerousers we were charged with vanquishing. We heard them sing it as a form of morale booster. It is the recommendation of this commander that we seek to identify it wherever possible and arrest those who sing it on charges of potential collusion with the Thorcin Recovery League, as we believe the "Strig" referred to in the song is the folklorical Eadric Strigona. Here…

In the past few weeks I've been thinking a lot about game structure. I feel quite safe in running a dungeon crawl1 since it's the easiest one, and also with running mysteries, but there is the "scenario" structure of games that isn't as intuitive. This is the structure you find in pretty much any non-D&D game, from your average RuneQuest session that does not involve delving a perilous place, all the way to more modern games like Apocalypse World and its family. For that purpose, I have tested…
So me and Cellar were talking about how to roll dice using cards and I figured that if I didn't write it down, I would forget it. These are our conclusions.1 "But Havoc, why? I own dice!" Maybe you like cards, maybe you forgot your dice at home, maybe your kid or dog or sub ate your dice, I don't know your life. Stop hectoring me. For this to work, separate your deck into one with just faces and one with just numbers. Remove the jokers. d2 - Draw a card, red suits are 1, blacks are 2. Can also…
So about an hour ago I idly thought to myself: "is this character a dom or a sub?" Then that thought became "well, BDSM is more complex than that, plus not everyone falls into that spectrum - in fact most people are fine with either and these dynamics [etc, you get the gist]". The natural conclusion was me looking for a random table of fetishes, mostly as a joke, finding this shit and going "Pornography?? Car sex??? Did the Mormon church commission this???" Naturally, I had to make my own.…
Everyone knows that it's not the size of the dungeon that matters, it's how you use it, so after a month of running Arden Vul I've decided to reflect about what it is doing, how it does that, and why I have been enjoying it. For context, the Weasels have thus far explored 34 rooms spread over 3 levels, found some treasure, and had only one fight with a pair of skeletal baboons. This means they've explored about 2% of the dungeon, which has around 1500 rooms - and implies that it would take…
Weird Writer said that I should make a post on how I do spreadsheets, as she thinks I might have something valuable to say on the subject (bless her). I don't think I do anything too crazy with them, but considering a lot of people have been asking me about my sheets for my Arden Vul campaign which I post occasionally, I figured why not consolidate whatever advice I can give in one place. Since it's about spreadsheets, I figure I should demonstrate the strength of them by having the post hosted…

No wizard you can name could be better than mine. Tall he was, and skilled and smart, Thunder was his voice and the moon was his eye, A nebula his hair, sidereal as starfire. He knew the mice's myriad pathways Teeming in hypothetical millions. Books were not enough for his Babelian thoughts, Penned at length in Saturnine ink. Strong were his opinions from high up on his solium. And beloved he was; Dandies tumid were left as the Trojans in his wake. Few men could compare, all valiant, Yet no bad…
Disclaimer: This class has not been tested. The world is wide and grim. Evil has laid waste upon it and wild dog, and wolf and boar and bear come to wallow and root in our fields, steal our suckling children from their mother's breasts, and drag them to their lightless underworld underground. Princesses are those who take upon themselves to live in perpetual revolt. Against a world of swords, they extend a blooming flower. For underneath all of the layers, all of the monsters, all of the grime,…
Scene III [Julia’s room.] Musical number ended. Exeunt company. Julia lies on a bed. Vi materialises as a hologram next to her. Vi. Tired? Julia. You have no idea. Vi. I can't have an idea. Julia. That was a figure of speech. Vi. I see. And what are you tired of? Julia. Everything! Everyone! Argh! Vi. Of everything…? Julia. I'm tired, Vi. I tried my best, I really did, but it didn't work. I have no patience! This world is so… so… disgusting! Vi. Disgusting. Julia. Yes! Did you see how he was…
These are the things which inspired my And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow campaign. As always, my players have their own, which they're encouraged to bring into the game, but these are mine. MusicWeyes Blood - And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is the most obvious one. Few things inspire me as much as music, and this album is really emblematic of that. I think you could find everything I intend to transmit with Hearts Aglow in its sound and lyrics, be it the way the nature gently creeps into the…
Have you ever noticed how few pregnant people you find in TTRPGs? It's pretty weird, when you think about it. For most of history, women had a lot of kids - up to 7, sometimes even more! - and considering most women stopped having children in their 40's (or even their 30's, when exposed to conditions of hunger), that is a cool 1/3 of their fertile life spent involved in the process of pregnancy; double that if you include newborns, which you should. Let's look at a historical example: Eleanor…
His moustache tickles your face when he kisses you, and your thighs when he goes down on you. He loves like a Californian wildfire: suffocating a body with affection until it is exhausted and he isn't there anymore. Despite that, this cowboy is an emotional one, lacking only the hat and boots; you may find him by his campsite at night, back to a log and fingering a guitar. He'll tell you of how he once lassoed a falling star and rode it all the way to dawn, and how he would do it again for you,…
The Arden Vul Weasels Campaign - Session 1 Weird Writer has written a proper recap so I'll leave that to her. My scattered and initial thoughts are these: Boy this thing is dense! Back to Masterpost.
Masterpost for that campaign.
On 27 April 2026, Mann told me I'd gel with The Halls of Arden Vul megadungeon. I took him seriously, and a month later almost to the day I started running it. I am using this for running it, which I've taken to calling "Dungeons & Weaselry", an adaptation of the excellent Pyrrhic Weaselry to be clsoer to D&D. It was intended that way anyway, in practice it's much more like Primeval 2d6, but who's counting? Play ReportsSession 1 - 24 May 2026
These are all the campaigns I have ever participated in: My oldest (pre-2024) campaigns will be in my Gaming Career Reports July 2024 - Sunrise Generation, a brief campaign and the first I ever ran by voice. September 2024 to March 2025 - Sunrise Quest, a Pendragon campaign ran with a variety of systems. July 2025 to November 2025 - The Sunsetters Campaign of Delta Green. Around September 2025 - The Grand Tour. Not quite a long campaign, I just tried to get a slow PBP off-the ground, it lasted…

1. Lord of the Knights of the Shining Gold9th Level Fighting Man. Almost as wide as he is tall, with a bellowing laughter and a wild, black mane for hair and beard. Loves adventurers and will offer hospitality for all who pass, though will also expect a gift of 500 gp for his grace. Has a short, thick penis which goes much unused for sex these days, as he has sworn celibacy after his wife passed away tragically in childbirth. He is attended by 12 giants organized into pairs of lovers who see…
