last year, i started using a hobonichi planner and fell in love. i used to bullet journal in college, but in my 30s, i'm finding it much more time-consuming to start from scratch. so, here's my wishlist as a new ~* hobonichi girlie *~ i've been using the poketo concept planner for work, but poketo was purchased and no longer exists, so rip to my favorite work planner. i'm a little nervous about using such a bright cover at work (especially since i travel and participate in conferences) but then…
april-august almost killed me, but i'm choosing to believe it's bc my autumn is going to be perfect and full of whimsy.
Why does Monday come so quickly?? 😭
but specifically in baltimore. i've spent the last 2 hours tweaking bits of my blog while re-watching emily in paris. i also updated my now page and realized i'm not "making" anything and that was disappointing. note to self: make things. reply to this post.
a sunday spent day jammin' on my planner and updating my "books read" thread on bluesky.
i’m traveling for work and i chose to take the train, but it’s HOT and American infrastructure is crumbling so it’s been delayed three times!! i did have a handful of great interactions with strangers, so it’s not all bad. also sent out some snail mail too. ok, train is finally boarding! reply to this post.
i signed up for postcrossing today and sending postcards to germany, russia, canada, the netherlands, and malaysia! 🥲
i’m trying to meet my quota of 3 days in the office, but man.. it’s exhausting. i commute 88 miles round trip and then have to be “on” for hours. getting an electric car has definitely helped, but most days i get frustrated because what is the point? this way of living leaves little time for the people and things that matter. i love what i do, but dislike the industry i’m in; it’s only getting more untenable. where am i supposed to go from here? if i were whitman—whose poetry continues to be a…
I'm never good at taking vacation time for extended periods, but I did it for my birthday week and it was, by far, the most relaxing week I've had in years. My twin brother came to visit from Florida, and it was a weekend of healing for the both of us (I left home so young and he had to handle so much alone) and I'm better for it. My husband made me a zebra birthday cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting and wrote me a birthday card that made me cry. We had dinner at Bunny's in Fell's Point…
happy birthday to me! I survived another trip around the sun, and felt an overwhelming amount of love from the people in my life.
i finished the rabbit hutch1 and (one of) my very first thoughts when closing it was “what a deeply human book.” it’s been hard for me to tell folks what the book is about because saying “it’s a book about people trying to survive in a post-industrial town in the midwest” feels reductive and, truly, that’s only a small portion of it. so, sure: it’s about surviving in the midwest, but it’s also about: curiosity, connection, and community; loneliness and relationships and how the suburbs…
A rainy Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore is the perfect reason to play Pokopia while listening to The Warmth of Other Suns on audio.
When I was 15, I met a boy on Xbox LIVE while playing Halo 2 on my brother's gamertag. I lived in Florida, and he in Connecticut, but we formed a friendship that bloomed into something much deeper. On Wednesday, we celebrated 17 years of marriage. We got sno-balls in Highlandtown and visited the George Peabody Library. John Hopkins graduates were taking photos, but I managed to sneak a picture. Afterwards, we had dinner at The Helmand and spent a lot of time thanking each other for never giving…
Time flies when you're in living the hellscape that is United States. So, I've been trying to channel my anger into action and have weekends canvassing and lit dropping for Bobby LaPin.1 I've never volunteered for a campaign before and I realize the more I do it, the less angry I am; the more in control I feel. It's also an opportunity to immerse myself in parts of Baltimore I've yet to see. Despite living here, I look like a tourist because I’m always looking up.2 And how could I not? This…
I want to be more consistent in blogging here, but I think the internet has ruined it for me; there is so much friction in me when I open a new post. It was so easy in the early days before algorithms corrupted everything. These days I feel as if I need to come prepared to write about my personal experiences. So, maybe the key is starting simple and going back to basics and writing about the mundane. I had a good weekend! Baltimore always has something going on, and this weekend had my two…
yesterday was robert’s birthday, so we went to the o’s game last night; orioles magic was in full force. i love this city. birdland forever. 🧡⚾️
I've been up since 1am because I couldn't fall asleep. I tried until 4:30am or so, but gave up after tossing and turning, and decided to watch gossip girl, journal, and paint my nails instead. I'm struggling with my "career" lately—something I never intended to have—because it conflicts with who I am as a person. I'm in an industry I never intended to be in, and the longer I stay, the more I worry I'm going to be stuck in it. I'm aware this is a problem that most people would be grateful to…
i know it’s not my responsibility to pull my brother out of poverty, but god damn.. shouldn’t i at least try to give him the tools we weren’t taught as children? america makes poverty feel like a personal and moral failure, when it’s literally built into our institutions; it’s by design. the american dream wasn’t meant for white trash, but they sure did of a great job of convincing it was.
