  1. Simpsons did it!

I've been trying to drum up some ideas for things to offer the bearblog community. I haven't been inspired to write much, but I have been tinkering a little. Well, every time I start a cool little widget or site add-on, I catch myself thinking "there are probably hundreds of these available already... and done better." Every. Single. Time. And it's true. But I stopped myself today. I started thinking, well... yeah. The amount of resources out there and the talent of developers being what it is…

  2. Sex is better with Bear

Found this ad at one point and felt it was totally appropriate for a post on here. Powered by Bear 😂

  3. Status bars on websites

I love the idea of a status bar, like what I have at the top of my site. I think most personal sites should use something similar. It provides the feeling of a live look-in to whether the webmaster is currently working on the site or not, within reach of being contacted, etc. It's stupid, but makes your visit feel slightly more personal. I have a guide to my status bar posted on the homepage of the site detailing what the different indicators mean. To see other sites start implementing similar…

  4. I don't want people to know our recipes

My wife makes some amazing food and desserts. We recently took some to a Fourth of July cookout and people loved them. Of course, we had a couple folks ask for the recipes. I can't explain it, but I absolutely did not want them to know. It's like.. if they knew how she made these, then it wouldn't be special when she brings it for them. I want those types of things to remain hers/ours and be something they remember about her. "Man, her [insert dish] is the absolute best!" Not only is it a great…

  5. New themes

I’ve gathered up two of my themes for bear blog and made them available for all to use. I plan to make some more and hopefully get a good collection going. Feel free to check out the themes page if you’re interested. In addition to the new themes page, I have removed the about section. My plan is to morph the homepage into a catchall hub that houses all that info eventually.

  6. Summer is here and so is my new theme

Yesterday marked the official start of summer. With that, I decided to refresh the look around here a bit. Went very clean this time. Especially considering my previous wacky pomo design. I love maximalism, but it’s time to reset. Speaking of that previous theme.. it seemed to be a huge hit within the bearblog ecosystem. It immediately became one of my most popular posts and views skyrocketed when I launched it. Others apparently enjoyed the silliness of it as much as me. I even got a couple…

  7. I’m always late to the party

I haven’t owned a video game console since the PS2 when I was young. I just never gamed much. But I’ve been really into playing older titles lately on emulators or my actual Game Boy Advance. I think it may be a small dissociation from the stresses piling up in life lately. A little way to return to my childhood and not feel so much damn pressure in life. Anyways… I’ve been mulling over some retro handhelds (TrimUI brick, Miyoo Mini+, Anbernic devices, etc) and finally settled on the decision…

  8. Playing games

I’ve been playing a lot of Game Boy Advance games here lately. I never had one as a kid, but played on my friend’s device plenty. I had my cherished Game Boy Color (lime green). It has to be one of the most prolific handhelds ever. The library of incredible games is astounding and the device itself is so damn good. Anyways, I’m playing WarioWare, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, and Warioland 4 primarily right now. Definitely planning to buy some more games I never got a chance…

  9. Bittersweet weekend

This weekend was amazing. We took our kids to see a live show featuring some of their favorite characters from tv. Their faces, laughter, dancing, holding hands while walking together… there’s simply NOTHING on this planet or in this life which tops that. Then our oldest got to go skating with a cousin today. Grinning ear to ear from the time they left to when they got back home. Our youngest has been saying so much more and expressing themself in the funniest and most adorable ways. Low…

  10. My ideal blog

I wish more blogs were like the old school online journals. People just talking about their day. Not too much detail, not too confident in their opinions, not trying to prove any points, etc. This certainly is not an attack on anybody. My blog isn’t like that either. For some reason it just feels more natural to write the way you typically see others write on their blogs in the modern era(at least what I normally see on the discovery/trending pages on bear). That old LiveJournal/Xanga/MySpace…
