Trying to watch TV again. A show I’ve liked, Slow Horses. But TV, set beside a novel, feels so hollow—lacking tangible substance. So abrupt and all over the place. You can’t dwell on TV. And it doesn’t grab the soul.
The Times put together a chart and accompanying summary of how a person in particular has twisted the concept of “weaponization” into a one sided prop that applies only to a few important friends — and also somehow by proxy to a legion of dispossessed. This substitutionary transaction that the country has witnessed repeatedly since 2016 still seems like a magic trick to me. The sleight of hand in it. The abrasive and blatant power grab the 1.8B fund represented. Is disgusting too strong a word?…
Brunson is a gorgeous player to watch. Flowing gracefully through the lane, avoiding the contact, adjusting his angle to the rim, switching hands, to bounce the ball HIGH off the glass. Exciting Finals ahead, for 2026.
Students can sense the loss of power and prestige of “the instructor” — the ones who’ve held the keys have misplaced them — or have willingly left them on their bedside tables.
First day of an extended summer swimming session outdoors with the kids. Always a draining experience. Sitting with other parents in the heat. Overloaded on food.
I’ve dipped my toe into blogging in PHP over the past year. It still feels magical — and I’m continuing to find new/old ways of making simple and effective PHP websites. Serendipity is a recent one.
Spurs vs OKC could be a great rivalry for years to come - which is good for someone like me, who just likes the game for itself.
Joyce Carol Oates Started: May 10, 2026 Finished: ? Review At the outset - I haven't read an Oates sentence in a couple of years - after LENGTHY detours down Ferrante dr. and Roth ln. and Karl Ove ave. Returning to the discursive and sidewinding language and shifting perspectives taxed my brain at the start. The Child (1932-1938) May 12, 2024 p. 45 — "She did specialty ironing for an Ocean Avenue laundry and specialty sewing for a local seamstress and, when she couldn't avoid it, she watched…
Dear NBA and MLB and every other pro sports league: You are going to begin to lose families as viewers if you can't reign in the sheer overwhelming quantity of SPORTS BETTING advertisements in your content. It is getting ridiculous and out of hand. They are trying to hook the next generation on gambling, and you are all complicit. I want to help my kids appreciate sport - but not gambling.
I absolutely love that the URL for the Acme Brick corporate website is "www.brick.com"
Finally: successfully leverage all the chatbot friends, and an entire year's worth of tinkering experience to get MEH commenting up and running on my site. Leave me a note!
My 18 y/o says that almost every guy at his school is into sports betting. I remember the NFL fantasy leagues of the 2010's — and it was a gateway drug to today's situation. Mainstream gambling is putting the mob out of business, and it's cheapening the souls of a generation.
Staples of classic rock radio in every era - are these musics on the verge of rediscovery by today's generations a-la Fleetwood Mac was a couple years back?
Trying out ground Pike Place coffee recently. More decent than I expected - especially in a pinch.
Rangers are a .500 team so far this year. Which ain't bad. Been listening to quite a few of the games on the radio.
Happy Birthday to me. 44 years.
Devastating turn of events for the tournament.
i’m interested in being known and accepted for the widely varying person that I am, not to be known as a family photo, or as this or that person’s antecedent. a person of offbeat interests and depth of curiosity and care.
my favorite bit of Feldman's Triadic Memories comes at around 21 minutes, the clarity of the 2nds and 9ths.

I also love the em dash. It’s been a part of my personal style for decades—I don’t know where I picked up the habit—maybe Joyce? Dickinson? I believe em dashes can stand in for any other mark. I used to know the unicode shortcut to correctly render an em dash, and I also knew the difference between an “en” and an “em.”
there is a drive to find out today’s STORIES - to be in the know - and yet there is the total CRUSH and glut of info to be had at a glance. And we aren’t made for this.
The voices of older Americans are - fading and faltering?
