Here’s the Bing maps rendition of the spot. How impossibly blue is that water? The current was strong. I had an instinct that the current was strong and north. That’s the state of the swell in the water of course, but that macro view of the water doesn’t necessarily apply to every spot. The ocean’s vastness means eddies and flows may not apply to every possible spot. But I decided to walk 3 blocks more to the south of the pier. For me, “south” means to the left in the images above. I walked into the water. I was out 30 yards and put on my fins and swam straight out. The current was proved strong, as I went straight out I was also pulled northward and within 4 minutes I was on the north side of the pier. Which was exactly what I intended. When the newscasters say “if you are not an experienced ocean swimmer do not go into the ocean during this storm” this is what they’re… No comments yet. Log in to reply on the Fediverse.
