The second day of school. The fortune of living close by means we do not have to rush, but the misfortune means I often loose track of time. So I rush out the door with the children, dropped the first at the school, and biked on with my second to her daycare. After this, I begin the journey to work, looking forward to the day, but I forgot… I forgot it was 8:45am, rush hour; I forgot is was Tuesday, work form office day — in The Netherlands this means everyone is on the road, and the morning commute becomes a survival ordeal. I was unaware of the stress accumulated in my body. I biked, thinking only on surviving all the scooters, the fat bikes, the occasional ‘car’ — yes cars on bike paths! how I dread those as small as they are! (they are not supposed to by the way, only handicap cars) — and the electric bikes. Me, on my heavy ‘Mama fiets’ (bikes for mothers and children), my helmet and stress keeping me alert.
