Our last stop on this year’s summer vacation was South Tyrol. We stayed at Lago di Caldaro, and it was a contrast to our previous stops, as everything was already in German. It did not feel as much like Italy anymore. The nature was fabulous nonetheless. We hiked through the Rastenbachklamm and enjoyed the jungle-like forest. The lake is one of the warmest in the Alps, and that was surprising, as the name suggests otherwise: the German name Kalterer See translates roughly to “colder lake”.
