I'm currently reading “The Notebook: a history of thinking on paper” by Roland Allen. Here I am, urged to think on paper. I grow increasingly jealous of those in ownership of discipline and solitude for thoughts. My motherhood years have just begun and I can only feel gratitude when I look at my perfect children. They've been blessed with health, energy, intelligence and beauty; all which serve as a stable beginning for parenthood — at least until adolescence. But as I often am, my soul craves the quiet solitude of the stars to think. I write this — a sluggish attempt — my three-year old — nee, ‘three and a half!’ — chatterbox goes on and on without catching breath. Thoughts, as time, are fragmented. This fragmentation becomes the source of my jealousy and — ironically — inspiration. The result is carrying a notebook and pencil at all times in order to capture those fragmented, ephemeral thoughts surging from pockets of silence.
