The Real Purpose

Chris Shaw is hosting this month’s IndieWeb carnival, and the theme is “Purpose”. Thanks, Chris, for hosting and for picking a strong theme! I keep seeing people ranting over the internet about this and that and how everything’s turned sour: games, music, politicians, etc. And while it’s absolutely true, I feel that people somewhat miss the point of the existence of certain entities around us, setting themselves up for failure. McDonalds doesn’t want to feed the world, they just want to create value for the shareholders. Lockheed Martin doesn’t want to protect the homeland, nor to kill children in Iran, they just want to create value for the shareholders. Blizzard Entertainment doesn’t want to make good games that will remain in the history as the best games ever, they just want to create value for the shareholders. Nestlé doesn’t want to give you the best quality in every cup of Nescafe coffee, they just want to create value for the shareholders. Apple doesn’t want to connect…
