A simple act of kindness always sparks another, even in a frozen, faraway place. When Smeerensburg’s new postman, Jesper, befriends toymaker Klaus, their gifts melt an age-old feud and deliver a sleigh full of holiday traditions. I have no idea how this movie flew under the radar for me, but wanting to tick a few more movies from the Top 250 IMDb list, I encounter this, and whoa! Lovely mix of hand-drawn and 3D techniques, a story about friendship, overcoming differences and inclusion without getting too political (it’s a kids’ movie, after all). With great voices from Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, Rashida Jones, Joan Cusack and Norm MacDonald, it delivers an hour and a half of thought-provoking, emotional story, wrapped in a visually mesmerizing experience.
