I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class Review — D+

Spoiler: they were not just friends. I would categorize this in the genre of Oregairu, Bunny Girl Senpai, Tomozaki-kun: high school kids giving philosophical reflections on life and overthinking their relationships with everyone. This one has probably some of the dumbest takes of the genre though. Starting with the title. Hope he never tells her that. I finished it, but was pretty bored by the end. Especially once they actually started dating pretty quickly. One point in its favor, usually in anime I feel like the male lead is so bland there’s no way the female lead would be interested in him. In this show, the female lead is also bland enough that yeah, I can see it. Storytelling – C – Not very engaging. Voice – D – Nothing special. Characters – D – Lorum. Attention Grab – C – Not great. Production – C – It’s fine. Overall – D+ Recommendations – Don’t objectify women
