There are places where using convenience products in cooking makes complete sense. In university and workplace cafeterias it makes quickly cooking a large number of low-cost meals easier. At home sometimes the microwave meal or the all-in-one discount ramen can be the only long-lasting staple you have left after not having gone grocery shopping for a while, or because you've been sick for a few days. In fast-food restaurants convenience is arguably the whole product, with as few steps as possible in-between, often completely dismissing how happy customers are with the quality of the food. It starts getting less reasonable in the case of a proper restaurant around the corner. We go there for a nice dinner in our free time, and we expect food that has been cooked without using convenience products.
