There’s this millenium-old saying: “If nothing works, use a ThinkPad”. And here we are now. Unfortunately, I’m going through laptops faster than I’d wish and I didn’t even play one single game. While it is bad and unfortunate, I guess it’ll do. This IBM is still going strong, but it runs Windows XP which might be an issue for the first iteration of Need for Speed. Also the hard drive seems to be particularly crunchy, which is either sign of approaching failure, or it’s just crunchy and I’ve forgotten the sound of it lately. One very funny thing though, is that even if the laptop is like 4 times the size of the Libretto and about 5 years newer, it doesn’t have a dedicated Windows key. After a bit of faffing around with USB thumbdrivers, I popped in a LAN cable and downloaded the needed files from the netwok, which only took about a minute, the ThinkPad having a 100Mbit network card.
