The Need for Speed Challenge > a half-assed review -- Need for Speed: High Stakes (1999)

Right? I think this was the first Need for Speed game I played in my teen years, as it was the most recent at the time. I remember playing it on the computer of some primary school friends, and it was awesome. It dropped the numbering scheme, although in popular lingo around the neighbourhood, it still was called “NFS 4”, habit that stayed in place up until Underground. Immersive, fast and with some really nice cars, while listening to Metallica. But before we go and test the PC version, let’s take a look at the Playstation one. The year is 1999 and the Playstation has revolutionized the gaming industry. Selling over 100 million units and setting the CD-ROM as the de facto game distribution technique for gaming consoles. But it’s also five years old, which means that PC progress has surpassed it by a lot and this can be seen in this game as well.
