Jake and Neytiri’s family grapples with grief, encountering a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges. The movie looks fantastic, the movie is great, the story is crap. It’s beautiful, but empty. The bad guys are reminding me of the Blood Trolls in wow and it’s basically the same kind of racist-fueled fight between tribes, like on Earth. There is a lingering sense that Cameron is operating on inertia here: there is little genuine novelty, no truly unexpected midpoint turn, and no tightly constructed narrative twist. The story unfolds along tracks that are easy to anticipate. Unfortunately, this made good money in the box office, so there’ll be a fourth movie, which is not something I’m keen on seeing. Four popcorns because it looks great, but that’s a stretch. Just as this movie is stretched soooo long at over 3 hours, so at the end everyone connects to the nature’s VR and go…
