A Polish-Jewish family comes to the U.S. at the beginning of the twentieth century. There, the family and their children try to make themselves a better future in the so-called promised land. I postponed this for a while, up to the point where I forgot why I even wanted to watch this. Opening the IMDb page, I instantly remembered: it’t’s directed by Barry Levinson, the director of The Natural, Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam, and Sleepers. With a great cast together, including Aidan Quinn, Elizabeth Perkins, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Joan Plowright, Kevin Pollak, Elijah Wood,, Lou Jacobi, this movie is a slice of old-school Americana, reminding us of a time when the American Dream was more than billionnaires running the world.
