i know it’s not my responsibility to pull my brother out of poverty, but god damn.. shouldn’t i at least try to give him the tools we weren’t taught as children? america makes poverty feel like a personal and moral failure, when it’s literally built into our institutions; it’s by design. the american dream wasn’t meant for white trash, but they sure did of a great job of convincing it was.
