boiling is the worst way to cook food this includes bagels, shellfish, even hot pot pasta is only good because you immediately put tasty non-boiled stuff on it before you eat it I will not be taking questions at this time
From Tokyo, we took the Shinkansen to Morioka, about 3 hours. Then from Morioka, it is 2 hour bus ride to Miyako.Last year when we visited Miyako, we didn't get a chance to try their Bindon (bottle bowl)Fresh seafood is packed into a milk bottle and you pour it onto rice and eatApparently back in the Jomon era, the fishermen thought of a way to bring back fresh uni (sea urchin) back to their
I’m often impressed, if not merely satisfied, by the quality of the food we enjoy at home. Rhonda and I both very much love going out to dinner, but it’s nice to not only know your way around the home kitchen, but also to be able to make such abiding memories. Porterhouse Steak and Potato Gratin One of the nice things about Rhonda being home in the summer is that she picks up some special groceries when she’s out. This week, she stopped at Marcacci’s, our most frequently visited butcher, and…
There are 6 pages listed on the English-language Wikipedia site under the category “Dutch sausages.” There’s Balkenbrij, sort of a cross between a black pudding and scrapple; Braadworst, a precursor to the South African boerewors; Frikandel, a casingless cylinder of spiced minced meat often deep-fried and served in sandwiches like the Belgian Mitraillette; Metworst, an air-dried pork sausage akin to hard salami or German Kottenwurst; Ossenworst, a sausage of minced raw beef flavored with…

Well, here’s something new – a spicy truffle Buldak. It’s only available at Walmart for starters. Second, it’s not saying artificial chicken flavor on this one either whioch is pleasant. It’s also the first review I’ve done where both the Instant Noodle Recipe Time episode and the mukbang are done in portrait mode. I figured I’d see what people thought of this as most of my views are coming via mobile phone. I don’t have any games on the phone that are in landscape mode. I don’t like to have to…
A recipe for fried dove breasts, dove nuggets, flavored with ranch seasoning and ranch dressing. Simple and tasty! Ranch Dove Nuggets is the latest post on Hunter Angler Gardener Cook.
We have just come back from a family holiday to Bodrum in Turkey, staying at the Parkim Ayaz Hotel. It was booked through EasyJet Holidays and was our first experience of staying at an all inclusive resort.

A bit of disclaimer: This package arrived last week, but I wanted to open it today, right on the date of Malaysia’s independence day. Today is Malaysia’s independence day (August 31), and Bilabila is celebrating it with their own usual creative and awesome way. I’m so happy seeing a business like Bilabila supporting their local artists. The co-founder of Bilabila, Jing Lee, is a staunch supporter of the local artists and local businesses, especially the non-mainstream ones. She also has been…
What fun to harvest my first ever potatoes from my garden! I know it doesn’t look like a lot of potatoes, but they were fun to grow. And I learned a lot about growing potatoes: when to water how to hill what to do when the plants flower how to know when to harvest (they grow under the soil) I’ve never grown potatoes before, since I understood they needed a fair amount of space. I have a relatively small vegetable garden, outside of cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, and peppers I plant in grow bags.…
Apples, strawberries, and kiwis.
Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans were a staple of my childhood. Originally conceived by Lulu Brown in the first half of the 20th century, the plant that made her recipe was about 10 miles from my hometown. The plant endured until the pandemic, then it “temporarily” shut down. It hasn’t opened back up; the family of the late Lulu have said they can’t find workers in the area. Grandma Country and my Aunt Lucy both used Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans in their baked beans. My husband doesn’t really care…
There’s hot chocolate and then there’s Hot Chocolate. And the difference between what ordinary mortals call and drink believing to be, hot chocolate, is not the same as the Drink of the God’s Hot Chocolate. Eh, I hear you say, what the frak is she talking about now? Hot chocolate? Yes, my dears, not all hot chocolate is made equal, as I am sure you know if you drink it as regularly as I do. Most establishments will spoon a couple of heaped spoonfuls of some iffy powder into a cup and froth some…
When my paternal grandfather, the postmaster in a small town in Ohio in the ‘60s, spotted a red velvet cake recipe in a magazine at work, I doubt he imagined that nearly 60 years later it would have reached legendary status among our family and anyone else who had the privilege of having a slice. The spell cast by this cake never wears off. My dad says his cousins, who haven’t had the cake in years, still mention pining for a slice. The secret really lies in the frosting. Instead of cream…
After quite a while, another one by Maiko! General InfoAccording to the store page, Chiyo Mukashi means “1000 generations”, a reminder of the achievements of everyone that came before us that makes what we do now possible. It's supposed to be drank as koicha (thick), and comes in a beautiful paper-wrapped box which includes a tin which contains a bag. It all feels very luxurious. It also contains a leaflet. Color and SmellWhile opening the little bag inside the tin, I was surprised by the…
You know it's thin blogging when I'm blogging about pickles, but genuinely: I recommend putting a crap ton of chili oil in a jar and using it to make quick pickles. It's very good. Here is a pretty unflattering image of pickles - I am not good at photographing this stuff - but I assure you that they were extremely delicious and I ate all of them pretty much instantly. I was way more into pickle making in 2020 and 2021, but I got back into it recently after a new grocery store opened up in my…
Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly Meals of the Week post for this past week, which is pretty much the last week of August. It was a week full of family dinners as my brother and sister-in-law were still down for the first few days before returning to Ottawa and then one of their daughters happened to come down for a day to spend with us as well. She was visiting friends in Halifax. It was so nice to see her and my sister and I were really pleased that she went out of her way to spend time…
