Just some personal stories about uniforms and gender conformation. One thing that had me a bit anxious about starting this new job was that there would be a uniform. LI am fussy about what I wear. I want it to be comfortable and practical and look good according to my standards. I have never fit into the popular norm for women's fashion, nor have I ever fit into any particular sub-culture. When I was about 22 I had settled into my sense of fashion for what it's worth and had a devastating realization at a family gathering that I basically dress as a slightly more up to date version of my grandfather, a blue collar rural white guy born in the 1930s. I went to a private high school in order to attempt to escape middle school bullying and they had a uniform. The typical English-derived short plaid skirt, white Oxford shirt, cardigan or blazer, knee-high socks or tights, and loafers. The problem is, my high school had multiple buildings.
