Arizona State Route 88 follows the Apache Trail. Clocking in at 45 miles from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Dam, it follows along the Salt River and Apache Lake. A chunk of the roadway is off limits to any vehicles other than four wheel drive and utility terrain vehicles due to its “unimproved conditions”. I drove the entire length of the road yesterday. The scenery is spectacular. I believe Earl and I drove this same route in a rental vehicle (I think it was a Subaru) in the early 2000s (looking back at the blog, I mention 2003 but I didn’t document the experience, apparently). Yesterday was a lot of fun in the Jeep. It’s the reason I love owning a Jeep.
