As undoubtedly many others in the hobby, I like to keep an eye on the BGG hotness, that list of 50 games that tries to capture the current buzz. My personal fascination is usually less in any particular game presented and more in seeing the sometimes sudden ebb and flow of games. Like when Heat: Pedal to the Metal came onto the scene and managed to stay in the hotness for what felt like a year. Or when SUSD or NPI release a new video and manage to create so much interest that the hotness reflects it. But it of course is also a great way to discover games one might have completely missed for some reason. One of the games that showed up in the hotness and had not been on my radar before was Nippon: Zaibatsu, the refinement/successors to 2015’s Nippon. At first it was just the usual bump in attention whenever a Kickstarter finally fulfils, but then more and more positive voices could be heard.
