Telling A Happier Solar Battery Story 0 ▲ Ben Tasker 58 minutes ago · 14 min read2831 words · Tech · hide I've been a bit down on our choice to install a solar battery and my most recent attempt to make the finances work didn't really make things any better. Ultimately, though, that money is gone and financial savings are not the only benefit that a battery can bring, so I decided to try and focus more on other aspects instead. One of the main benefits of a solar install, in general, is that it offsets carbon: allowing us to consume low-carbon electricity rather than energy freshly zapped out of a gas turbine. The battery plays a role in that capability too. This post looks at collecting carbon intensity information and then calculating any carbon savings that our battery has generated. Savings Mechanism Battery savings are achieved via arbitrage: buying (charging) when the cost is low and selling (discharging) when prices are high. In practical terms, it works exactly the same way for carbon as for financial savings: charging when there's less demand on the grid tends to mean fewer… Commenting on Bubbles has been removed. Why?
