In a time before social media follows and RSS subscriptions, you'll find a website that you enjoy reading and you save the URL into your bookmarks list. You will organize your bookmarks into folders, and, if you can remember, you'll visit these web sites on your computer whenever your family is not using the phone. The web was new, and everyone was figuring out new things to create. There were two 'magazines' that started around the same time that generated a lot of excitement back then that gave a lot of ideas of what it meant to be a magazine on the web: Salon and Slate. (Once upon a time, you can write your own blogs on Salon, for example.) Salon finally died this week, although its influence were already gone quite many years ago. ~ Links: Salon, Internet’s Oldest General Interest Publication, Shuts Down After 31 Years, by Auzzy Byrdsell, The Guardian RIP, Salon.com, by Laura Miller, Slate
