Hunting secret resistance bases in Worcestershire Countryside 1 ▲ Yunzi 53 minutes ago · History · hide Most people in the UK are at least vaguely familiar with the story of the Home Guard in World War 2. Admittedly possibly from the comedy Dads Army, but the much maligned men (and indeed women) of the Home Guard stood ready and able to fight against any invading army as well as their actual documented work of assisting with the war effort here at home. Less well known is the story of the secret Auxiliary units. A far less documented home based force, made up of tough men who knew each corner of their local ‘patch’. This was a guerilla resistance force, trained in sabotage and close quarters killing that would, with an expected life expectancy of about 10 days, act secretly against the invading force that was expected from across the channel.
