The Knights Templar - In Worcestershire - Part 1) 1 ▲ Yunzi 34 minutes ago · History · hide I’ve looked at some fun historical theories of the Templar Knights and even some of their churches in nearby Herefordshire like Welsh Newton and more famously Garway, but wanted to also explore their presence in my own home county of Worcestershire. Starting in a small way with St Michaels church in the very lovely village of Abberley. The site of the church probably is Saxon, dating back to 960 or there abouts, but the current remaining building is a hodge-podge. Originally 12th Century, it was modified in the 13th and then extensively in the 14th Century. By the 16th Century all this messing about was causing seriously structural problems and flying buttresses were needed to shore up the walls. The state of the church meant that when the nearby St Marys was built in 1850, St Michaels was left to ruin. Commenting on Bubbles has been removed. Why?
