Yes All Men

I wrote this draft over a year ago. I’ve been editing and re-editing it in the hope that I don’t offend or say the wrong thing as this is a topic I’m passionate about and which, rightly, gets picked over in intricate detail. I re-read it again last week and read an article1 today that made me realise I need to publish and be damned. TLDR; FUCK THE PATRIARCHY. I’ve seen it before and, like me, you can probably tell from the body language; whether it’s the pushy ‘just give me your number’ guy, or the ‘hey I was talking to you’ guy, I can see the discomfort and fear on the faces of the women as they try to brush it off, keys tightly clenched between their fisted fingers. Then one night I intervened. I am not looking for any plaudits. It all happened so quickly. It was a Friday night, post-work drinks in the pub, and I’d tapped out to catch the last train home.
