There Is No Antimemetics Division by Sam Hughes 0 ▲ felix.gripe 1 hour ago · Writing · hide · 0 comments My friend here in athens runs a sci-fi book club, and although my greek isn’t good enough to partake in the chats, I do often pick up the book the group is reading. This month’s book is this very weird sci-fi horror novel. The story follows an english couple, one of whom is the director of the uk “Antimemetics Division” – a government (?) department in charge of dealing with inexplicable phenomena, giant sea walking monsters, a god in a rock that makes you forget how to ride a bicycle, things of that nature. Anyway it has some very interesting and unique concepts, a lot of gore, horror, death and apocalyptic end-of-world stuff. Much of it is about the antimemetic ability to mess with one’s memory. The ending was a bit of a rushed overload of weirdness, and there were a couple of parts in the book that felt out of place (bicycle god, random computer nerd memetic diversion), but overall a thrilling book the like of which I’ve never read before which I raced through in two sittings.
