Morrissey Mullen - It's about time...

Jumping back to 1983, this is Morrissey Mullen with a very pop-inflected sound. It reminds me a lot of George Benson's In Your Eyes, with very 80s pop instrumentation and vocals fused with the fusion jazz/funk elements. (This is a playlist with the full album, so let it play through!)
