Cannibalizing our own business 0 ▲ Laura Michet 2 hours ago · Gaming · hide · 0 comments If you're working in indie games, you're competing for a small slice of a small slice of the games industry pie. The obvious reason for this is that you can't compete for attention with hundred-million-dollar titles. But the other reason is that you are, on PC where most indies live, competing with every game that has ever existed. Everyone who's likely to buy your game probably has dozens, if not hundreds, of games ready to play on Steam. If they're the kind of real enthusiast who takes risks on games that aren't already famous and well-regarded, they're probably also the kind of person who has multiple consoles at home, or a bunch of emulators on their PC - so thousands of games, really, at their fingertips. So... you are competing for their attention with the entire history of the medium. This is very cool for us as artists, but very frustrating for those of us who want attention!! There are so many good games out there that deserve attention, and they never stop deserving it -… No comments yet. Log in to reply on the Fediverse. Comments will appear here.
