Yesterday I posted a list of improvements we’d (finally!) made to our flat, having now lived there for two years. I mentioned in passing that getting such stuff required us to save some money, but that we were happy with the outcome. The question, naturally, arose from multiple people as to why we didn’t just perform the requisite fixes and installs ourselves. Why not measure, cut, and install our own blinds? It’s not hard. Why not fix and replace our own taps? You can get all the parts from your local hardware store. Why not clean and maintain your own air conditioning system? There are videos on YouTube about it. Why not pick up your own furniture? You can rent a van. And so on. Some of you posted this in jest, but others I can’t tell. So I’ll approach your comments earnestly. I appreciate people’s faith in my abilities. Everyone making such comments has implicitly judged my intelligence, strength, available tools, and time management prowess, and determined that I’m up to these…
