ALLVEI Review for All About Jazz 0 ▲ Between Sound and Space 1 hour ago · Music · hide · 0 comments My latest review for All About Jazz explores the self-titled debut of ALLVEI, the trio of Norwegian guitarist Eivind J. Vullum, Polish saxophonist Jerzy Mączyński, and Swiss drummer Nicolas Stocker. ECM listeners will recognize Stocker from the intricate rhythmic weave of Nik Bärtsch’s Mobile on Continuum (2016) and his sensitive percussion alongside Areni Agbabian’s voice and piano on Bloom (2019). Here, his melodic approach to rhythm helps turn spectral electronics, searching saxophone lines, and sustained guitar textures into a journey through places both geographical and imagined. From the subliminal groove of “Driva” to the gathering intensity of “Kristiania,” the musicians allow each contribution to reshape their shared space. The album’s patient unfolding, attention to texture, and balance of compositional clarity with improvisational freedom give ECM fans ample reason to spin this one sooner rather than later.
