smallnet advertising emails, and being big enough to be noticed

so theres been a new forum lately that has been picking up popularityquxnet, and it recently hit 1000 memberspart of that seems to be that the sysop consistently emailed tons of people in the communityskimming through the intro pages, it seems a good chunk were from direct emailsthe thing is though that i never got an email like thatthe only reason i ever found out about the forum was someone mentioned it in 32b cafeand sure, THIS TIME i found out about it by sheer chancebut what if theres more stuff going on that i never dojust because i dont "stand out" enough to get emailedis there some list or aggregator i need to apply to to get more visibility for stuff like this?i dont want to have to constantly worry that people are doing stuff like that that i never get to be inand have to go out of my way to seek stuff like thisjust because i dont have the same reach some people do
