Soul Man by Sam & Dave 0 ▲ Happily Imperfect 1 hour ago · Music · hide · 0 comments A song from the 1960s that you like or means something to you. As I’ve mentioned before, my parents weren’t all that bothered by soul music, so it’s the one musical genre that I discovered and explored by myself. Don’t get me wrong, they enjoyed the usual classic tracks like everyone else but my Mum was a Beatles fan at that time, and my Dad was off in Simon & Garfunkel territory. This track is the one that clicked for me in terms of a more dynamic soul sound, punchy rhythm section, the guitar as part of the drumbeat, and the soaring vocals. Written by Isaac Hayes (yes, of Shaft fame) and David Porter, both of whom were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this track for Atlantic Records among the Southern Soul movement, is a classic. “Soul Man” by Sam & Dave Listen on Apple Music Your browser does not support the audio element.
