Last night I rode up to Nashville with a friend to catch DJ Shadow on tour to celebrate 30 years since his debut album Endtroducing..↗.. I've been listening to Shadow for probably 20 years; my companion for the evening had never heard his music (even after agreeing to join me). Wick-It the Instigator The show opened with a large bearded fellow who called himself Wick-It the Instigator↗ performing some fun hip-hop style mash-ups. He covered a lot of ground, pulling in bits from all sorts of genres and fusing them together. A highlight for me was Notorious B.I.G. x Cake↗. This was a great set to get the crowd bouncing a bit. Open Mike Eagle Wick-It was followed by Open Mike Eagle who welcomed us to the rap show and promised us a "night of 1000 rap songs". He wasn't just rapping over a static track, though - he was also performing as his own deejay, smacking away at a small console to mess with loops and effects and whatnot. I really enjoyed Eagle's set, and he indeed counted off one…
