Every week, I share something I learned in the previous seven days. I usually find these while I’m putting my weekly newsletter together but somehow, they don’t quite fit! This week I learned that the biggest Star Wars hit of 1977 wasn’t by John Williams. It was a disco version. Meco, a New York trombonist turned producer, saw the film, went straight into a studio and came out with “Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk”: the main theme, the cantina band and a lot of strings, all over a four-on-the-floor beat.He then did the same to Close Encounters, Superman, The Wizard of Oz and Raiders of the Lost Ark, because of course he did.Someone has put the whole album on YouTube, played from the original vinyl with the crackle left in. It is fifteen minutes of pure 1977 and I have had it on loop whilst writing this weeks newsletter. Get better at work. Every Week. One Email. Practical Tools. Real Progress. Get the Mail Email sent!
