A prospective client once told me, “I don’t care about what you do or how. I only care about results.” This statement conveys short sightedness and ineffectiveness. Even if clients only care about results, they need to learn to respect the process. They won’t need to become the expert or execute on research or production, but they should care enough to understand what’s happening and why. Anything less signals thoughtlessness. It suggests that the clients would like the results, but don’t actually care about achieving them. Imagine a client saying to a personal trainer, “I don’t care about the diet or exercises. I only want six pack abs.” One way or another, if they want the abs, they will need to learn. Clients who don’t care about what’s happening will not be able to set the project up for success. Why work with a client who doesn’t care, if you can find one who does? The post Don’t work with clients who don’t care appeared first on Herbert Lui.
