Walking

My one-year-old has taken his first steps! A few days ago, my wife an I were at a pub/hotel for a weekend brunch and I’d taken him for a little explore. On the way back, he pulled himself up on a table and just…set off. He managed three or four steps before I shouted to my wife, and then a couple more with her watching before he dropped down to his bum. We kept it a secret for the rest of the day, hoping that the other kids would get to see it for themselves. Later that evening, we filmed him as he walked backwards and forwards (a step or two at a time) across the living room. He was delighted, his elder brother started crying, and everybody took turns having him walk between them and catching him. He stumbles like a drunk man, and won’t do it reliably. Still, every day, at least once, he’s toddled off happily in a direction and not completely stacked it. I’m sure I’ll come to regret this newfound mobility, but for now, it’s a wonderful step forward for him.
