. Voirin press from 1890 – notice the shelves of lithographic stones If you find yourself in Mallorca, take a trip to Palma and the Taller 6A gallery in one of the ancient streets to the east of the city’s Santa María cathedral. It’s an artists’ studio complete with an electrified lithographic press made by J Voiron in Paris in 1890. The walls are lined with shelves of 700 litho stones painted with images of art, graphics and advertising. The Voirin presses were exported as far as Mexico, as this post about the restoration of a press in Oaxaca shows. The company was taken over by Marinoni, which supplied the presses for the French colour weekly Le Petit Journal and The Million from George Newnes in 1892. Beautiful engineering with electric motor in view There’s also a nice cafe on the opposite corner called Mocara. __ >Taller 6A gallery>’Colour in Victorian magazines‘ at Magforum website >The Million: Britain’s first colour weekly
